It's surprising to see how many formats this Amiga tech demo was ported to. The fact that it wasn't that great a game, makes it all the more surprising, what it lack in gameplay the Amiga version made up for in the stunning graphics and music. This handheld console port for the Lynx, actually improves hugely on the original version.

It's still a flawed game with slightly dodgy collision detection, but at the heart of Shadow of the Beast is an open world platform title. The Lynx port adjusts the game down very well for the handheld platform with redesigned stages the sound and art of the game is also superb. It's certainly a love it or hate it title and while the sequel did improve the gameplay the franchise never reached the quality of other series in the genre.

if you're a fan of the series this version is worth a look, not least because of the number of gameplay changes including new bosses. The giant skeleton boss at the end of the cave is replaced with a green fireball breathing monster.
