Edit: for clarification, this post is coming from my perspective as a software developer.
I have observeed that syscourse does not really exist outside of tumblr
I have come to the conclusion that syscourse is not infact a real debate, but is merely a symptom of the way this website is designed, organized and moderated. Hear me out
It plays out like this:
Community A is using tag X
then Community B starts using tag X to write about something different. Community B might even be larger than community A
Both sides then attempt to re-write history to say that they were using that tag first, sometimes producing evidence either real or fabricated. Whether the evidence is fabricated or not does not matter for the purposes of this discussion. Both sides attempt to prove that they own the tag.
Members of community A perceive it as if Community B hacked into discord and forcibly took ownership of their server and react emotionally as if that were the case.
In reality no one has any ownership over tags, it is inherrant to how this website is designed and programmed.
For anti endos, it basically comes down to this XKCD
For pro-endos, endos, they are distressed by not having their identity and belief system validated
This creates conflict.
The whole thing has gotten out of hand.
People are sick of seeing syscourse in their dash.
It is my perception that almost all systems on either side have the syscourse tags blocked anyway.
You would think a population who are almost all in therapy and should therefore be highly aware of the effects of emotional dysregulation on judgement would see this.
But they don't.
As software developers the way we design our products shapes the communities that form in those digital environments.
Sometimes bad choices are made and they should be fixed before they poison the community that has grown up in that environment.
That said filter bubbles are dangerous, but since most people have the emotional maturity of a seven year old, maybe some ability to filter and enforce our boundaries online is needed?
Edit again: For sake of clarity, we are anti-endo, don't call me neutral. But we are also very aware that the only person you can control is you attempting to control other people makes you miserable. I will assume that everyone knows the difference between attempts at control and having boundaries as most of you are or were in therapy right? I am going to put this in the syscourse tag, because I want to see people crucify me for having self awareness and media literacy.
