Thinking about the impact of drones on journalism
Once they figure out the safety issue there will of course be a huge evolution in the potential for telling stories, whether it's a violent protest or an out-of-the-blue traffic accident.
But the consequences will go way beyond storytelling. Someone will have to guarantee that it's not only CNN and the likes who get to fly their drones in public airspace.
What about redundancies of photo- and video-journalists? Surely, once the initial investments have been recouped, drones will be a lot cheaper to run.
Expect yet more losses of news staff jobs, unless they all become drone operators.
