"Well, um." He catches himself. She'll eventually figure out that she really doesn't need sleep. But he knows what no sleep does to him. He doesn't remember the last time he voluntarily lay down in an attempt to sleep.

"Never mind. I hope you sleep well. When..." Hopefully, Jane will accept this answer. If she doesn't, he may disappear even more into his garments. He can't do that, not when he's trying to keep up appearances.

Caine wouldn't quite be able to pinpoint the exact moment he stopped listening to her woes. After all, his brain is programmed to mostly store notes and tidbits about his beloved adventures, not feedb- I mean! At least, he felt confident that the words 'strange', 'really nervous' 'odd' and 'aware' were more than enough for the A.I to dispense some solid advice... ! Or comfort. Whatever it was Jane needed.
