When I worked at DEC in the 80s we had these HP 7580 pen plotters, absolute monsters that could do color plots on D-sized drafting paper, which is an enormous 22x34 inch work area. Slow but super cool to watch in action, and the results had that vector display accuracy you couldn't get on regular printers of the time.
(To be honest though what I saw it getting used for most was plotting gate array layouts for chips we were designing, so people could hang them in their office.)
A LiNc 12 biT miNiCoMPUtEr From mit/digiTaL eQuipMeNT
Motherboard for the AlphaStation 600 that I designed for Digital back in the mid 1990s. Beast of a board, 12 layers with a lot of timing constraints, PCI was brand new then. This board has 3 64bit PCI and 2 32bit, as well as 4 "EISA" (extended ISA) slots. We had no freaking clue whether PCI or EISA was going to catch on, so we put both in lol. Don't think anyone ever made an EISA card for this machine.
Apollo Computer was a player in the great minicomputer boom of the 1980's, along with Digital, Data General, and Prime. Bought by HP eventually, and no trace of them remains today. Except, for these custom man hole covers they inexplicably had made, which still sit in front of the buildings they left decades ago.
Model 33 Teletype. Had the pleasure of learning BASIC in high school on one of these babies, with a DEC PDP/8 on the other end. Comms rate was like 75 baud or something, a good typist could probably produce output faster lol.
Digital Equipment Corp. VK100 "GIGI" terminal (1982). This is a rare machine from DEC that did not sell too well. DIgital Equipment Corp’s PDP-8/e 12-bit mini-computer, very similar to the one our high school had which I learned to program in BASIC on. Ours was able to support 4-5 users on DECwriter printer terminals (keyboard and fan-fold paper for output) simultaneously, on something like 32K of core memory. I once saw the invoice for it in our school office, they paid $70,000 for theirs in the mid 70′s!
