I'm gonna do something with Maddie and Holden
" What?"
In front of him stood a tiny girl, a girl who looked so much like the one he left behind that it hurt. In her hand was a thumbdrive. A certain thumbdrive that he had given that girl he left behind.
His heart shattered.
" No Cassie, no. No you couldn't have taken it..." he picked it up from her small hands, feeling that constricting feeling in his chest. He had to force himself to draw oxygen into his lungs. " No..." his eyes filled with water and his fingers wrapped around it tightly.
He turned and ran, leaving the little angel who thought she had done right confused.
He sat at the little thing he had created. It was sort of a mock computer, and he had managed once to use it to contact his Maddeline. At his side, a little girl in pigtails swung her feet, humming a song.
Carefully, Holden put the thumb drive in the computer.
He was surprised by what he found.
There was the one message he had originally written to her of course, but after that there were dozens of other text files. All of them were titled " Dear Holden" with a number after it. There seemed to be dozens, if not hundreds.
Hesitantly, he found the last one and opened it.
" Dear Holden,
It's been almost a year now since you've disappeared. I thought it would go, but it still hurts so much. I'm sorry I havn't written as often, but it's hard. I feel like I'm opening the wound again and again, but the thing is I don't want to forget. I don't want to forget loving you.
But I need to stop now. I found someone I love again, and though I'll never forget loving you... I need to move on.
I'm so sorry. This is the last letter I'll be writing. Please take good care of our daughter, and tell her Mama loves her very much.

Your Maddie"
Holden's head bowed, and his chest shook silently.
