they’re the only ones there. the basement had been empty when they got there, no one came running as the lodge burned to the ground. it’s just the two of them as the sun rises, waiting for something. maybe someone to come, because someone had to have called for help. or maybe it’s just waiting to see if those creatures are gonna come out during the day too. “maybe some of them made it? could still be in the mines.” but he doesn’t really believe it. if someone was still alive, they’d be here. they’d get back to the lodge.
