weird idea: A colorless tribal package ala Obelisk of Urd, Coat of Arms, etc.

We actually did craft such a package already, but decided that it did not fit the idea of 8x8. These packages are generally suppose to be included as a whole into a deck. Outside of maybe some niche deck, not to many decks will want 8 colorless tribal effects. Not when most tribes already have support in their own colors already, they wouldn’t need a whole colorless package for that.

Though if someone wanted a more commander or type specific package, say a colorless Eldrazi deck, then we could most likely post the package under that pretense.

Hello! (First off, this is a fantastic blog) I'm thinking of building Damia sage of stone. Is there any way you guys could do a 1x8 of ways to shuffle the entire grave into the library (a la psychic spiral)?

Just getting some more info about your package request. Our packages are meant to be included as a whole into a single deck, though of course you can do with it as you like after the fact.

So you want a 1x8 b/u/g package for shuffling your GY into your deck? I’ll do some research on the matter and if a complete package can be made I’ll have it posted during my friday 4pm time slot.

35 land seems a bit low now with the new mulligan

I 100% agree with you! I always recommend 38 myself, between 38 base lands and 8 mana ramp effects you should be sitting pretty with mana in most decks. With the 8x8 way of building though you just start with 35 lands, between the 8 packages you typically end up adding in 3 more.

An example would be in a tribal elf deck you would most likely add in a cavern of souls into either your 1x8 personal package or if there is room in your 1x8 tribal support package.

That being said the 8x8 theory when used to make a whole deck just helps you put together a rough list. From there you can make cuts to up your number of lands, because maybe your deck doesn’t want 8 kill spells or 8 counter spells.

When making ur 8x8 packages for say a 2-3 color deck. Do you force the inclusion of all the colors in the deck. Or if the 8 best options can be found all in one color or colorless options would you use the best options or a mix of all the colors

It should be the best 8 card package that can be made for $20. Forcing themes, colors, or flavor should not be something our writers are doing.

That being said, all our writers have their own opinions and what one person thinks is the “best” will not always line up with what someone else thinks is the best. Though as the co-editor here I do try to proof the lists when I can.
