I have joined the dark side. Blame Three Houses.  Just a quick fic I whacked together in an hour, inspired by a comment on my 3 Houses Blind LP.  (I consider this canon to the playthrough, happening during Chapter 7)

dimitri’s ghost eye & ageusia.

so, because fire emblem never explains why dimitri loses a damn eye in his route, i get to run free with headcanons!  anyway, my dimitri did not lose an eye, but instead, he experiences a phenomenon known as ‘ghost eye’.  dimitri, of course, is a particularly severe case in which he experiences hallucinations and visions of the dead who have come to haunt him.  as a result, he injures himself in desperation, unable to bear the ghosts in his life, but the wound was shallow and the eye was ultimately saved as a result of white magic and quick application.  now, there is a scar just above the eye, but his visions still remain, hence the eyepatch to stop himself from experiencing these visions.  post war, dimitri finally seeks proper care for his trauma and eventually treats this condition over time.

ageusia is defined as the loss of taste functions of the tongue, particularly the inability to detect sweetness, sourness, bitterness, saltiness, and umami.  for dimitri, his inability to do so is strictly psychological and as mentioned before, he does receive proper care for his trauma and is eventually capable of tasting different flavors over time ( although his sense of taste is never completely restored ).  since taste and smell are so closely connected, dimitri also experiences difficulty with scent, but this is to a significantly milder degree.  while dimitri has a significantly reduced ability to taste, he is partial to extremely sugary desserts because it’s one of the few flavors he can actually experience.  in addition, he takes his tea with ungodly amounts of sugar.

He realized, too late, in the parking lot behind the restaurant, that he hadn’t at all thought this meeting through.

“Shit,” he muttered, pressing his forehead to the steering wheel. How did this slip past him? Dimitri lived with Charlie, and he hadn’t even considered the possibility that the newborn vampire knew about what had happened. Surely Charlie would have let Augustus know? Or maybe it was foolish of Augustus to think they would be secretive about all of this.

This car was too hot, he decided, because there was no other reason for his face to be so flushed. He decided that he wasn’t going to bring it up until he knew, for certain, that Dimitri already knew. Newly resolved, Augustus stepped out of his car and walked to the front door. The younger vampire was already waiting for him, and Augustus nodded to him in greeting.

“Good to see you,” he said. “It’s been a while.”
