dinahlicity + coffeeshop au
“Hello, my name is Dinah... and I’ll be singing for you this afternoon.”
Felicity picked up coffee cups from around the shop and placed them in her tub. Her attention was solely on cleaning up. The coffee shop was busy that afternoon and she needed to keep up the pace.
“Blackbird singing in the dead of night,” a sultry voice filled the building. People’s chatter seemed to dull. Even the coffee grinder and the milk frother seemed to quiet as if her voice had awed the objects. “Take these broken wings and learn to fly.”
Felicity paused in her work. She stood straight, letting her tub settle on a table. Her gaze fell on the singer, Dinah, and watched as her fingers moved across the coffee shop’s piano and those sultry tones fell from her lips. Dinah’s eyes fluttered open and met Felicity’s eyes across the room. They looked at each other for a long moment. Felicity felt as if she were the only woman in the room.
“Smoak.” Her boss startled her. “Get back to work.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
Felicity stole one more glance at Dinah before going back to work. There was something about her voice that reached down deep inside of her. She wanted to speak to her, but she didn’t know if she would have the time. It made her chest constrict and her stomach twist.
