"Be strong, don't give up." The voice resonated across the silence. You stiffen up as you try to find the skeleton you've been seeing in your dreams. He stood across from you, his golden eyes gleaming softly in the misty surroundings. He hums and tilts your face. He checks you over with a calculated eye. His wings move softly. "You're a lot stronger than you think," he simply states before withdrawing his hand.
Your eyes widen as you call out, but then he fades into the mist.
---
You awaken with a start, your hand still stretched out. You sigh and massage your eyes as you relax. You've had that dream a lot lately since you're stressed and fatigued. You sigh as you slowly begin to stand up. You go to the restroom and look at yourself in the mirror. You start preparing for another day. You just pray it isn't Hell like yesterday.
You slip on your shoes as you step out with anything you need to survive your day.
--------
Your eye twitches as the third Karen of the day passes by. You sigh and step back for a few seconds. You've been receiving the worst customers, and it was beginning to worry you out.
"Hey, you good?" Polyantha, one of your coworkers, spoke out. She was one of the reasons you made it through the past few days. "Judging by your expression, you've got another nightmare customer." Polyantha walks up and lightly pats your back.
"How do you do it?" You sigh to her, and she hums. She taps her chin before pulling you in closer.
"Well, I personally take a few minutes to practice mindfulness, but that's my approach. Maybe you should try it." Polyantha encourages before returning to the floor. You sighed and took a long breath. You take a few more before you steel yourself, you've got this.
---------
You were checking out another customer when you noticed someone familiar out of the corner of your eye. You straighten up straight as a quartet of skeletons enter.
You try to concentrate on the skeletons that just strolled in. You make out a skeleton wearing black clothing with a bunch of places to put weapons. He seemed to have a scar on his right eye. Next to him were two taller skeletons who seemed like identical twins. One had wings and wore a plain black top and leather pants; he had a scar on the edge of his left eye, while the other dressed in an outfit you'd expect a biker to wear, with a jagged scar on the right eye.
But the one that attracts your attention is the one that comes literally straight from your dreams. He wore a v-cut shirt that showed off his ribs, he had the same gold spots as in your dream, gloves, golden wings, and a massive scar on his right eye. You couldn't take your gaze away from him for a moment. But your customer called your attention back to them and you finished checking them out.
"Yo, you okay?" Polyantha inquired as you briefly pulled your gaze away from the skeleton you'd seen in your dreams. "You've been staring for like five minutes." Polyantha hums, and you swiftly nod. You must concentrate on your work, dang it. Stop looking at that attractive skeleton.
--------
It felt as if the gods were holding your life in their hands as you shakily held the pen and paper in your fingers. You were serving the four skeletons that came in. You could feel the skeleton of your dreams' gaze on you.
"Hello," you say, looking between the four skeletons. "I'll be your server for tonight, what would you like to drink?" You inquire as you lay up the menus for each of the skeletons. A closer look at the four skeletons revealed that they were all extraordinarily unjustly gorgeous. The skeletons glanced at each other, but the skeleton of your dreams' eyes did not leave you.
"Well, we'll start with wa-" The skeleton with the belt begins.
"Wine." You jump as the skeleton from your dreams is interrupted by the weapon belt's voice. As you looked at him, his gaze remained fixed on you. You lock eyes and swiftly avert them. "I'd like some wine." The skeleton groaned and reclined back in his seat, finally shifting his focus away from you. The other skeletons exchange glances before starting to converse amongst themselves. You receive the other drink orders.
"I'll be right back with your waters, okay?" You smile before you walk away. You feel your face burning up as Polyantha smirks at you. You know that smirk as she leans on her palm. Of course, she lightly teases you as you go about your night.
--------
As you eventually finish checking them out, you learn the names of all the skeletons: Disaris (the belt weapon), Lychnus (the black t-shirt and leather pants one), Obitus (the jagged scarred one), and, of course, Dawn, the skeleton of your dreams. Dawn is the final skeleton visible as they all leave. He was staring at you and sighed. And, as if he knew you were having a bad day by your tired expression, he crosses his arms.
"Be strong, don't give up." Dawn hummed out. You tighten up, and your gaze immediately shifts to him. Your eyes were wide as saucers. You open your mouth and nothing comes out. "You're a lot stronger than you think." Dawn whispers one final time before placing something on the counter; you accept the paper as he goes away. You open it, and...
The note read, "See you in my dreams. - Dawn," and also included a phone number. You felt your cheeks burning up. Oh, my God, you just found out the number of the skeleton you've been seeing in your dreams.
Maybe you'll give him a call later today...? Who knows.
