♥ - family headcanon

Growing up, Oz hada small but close immediate family that included his parents, and a few favoriteaunts and uncles. They have frequent gatherings that are low-key backyardbarbeques.

But, he also has alarge extended family of distant aunts, uncles, and cousins. When the wholegang gets together for bigger reunions, it’s a whole lotta hoot and just alittle bit o’ nanny.

Oz’s parents werealways pretty laidback, allowing him room to grow, learn, and make his ownmistakes. As long as he wasn’t committing acts of vandalism or exhibitingcriminal behavior. Oz was always a smart, quiet kind of kid with a cool head.

Post-lycanthropy,Oz was never sure if he’d settle down and get married, have kids. How wouldthat work? Once in a while Dad disappears for a few days and no one knows why?Or he has to explain to some nice, normal woman that he’s occasionally amonster? He sort of made peace with the idea of being mysterious bachelor guy.For a while. Until he got a true handle on his lycanthropy (which he would withpractice and maturity).

Once he did settledown with a nice lady and have a few kids he’d enjoy being home with his family.He’d get some kind of normal job (in my head he always co-owns some kind ofnightclub or bar), but there’d always be something supernatural going on on theside (werewolf wrangling, occult consulting, etc.). Whoever he ended up withwould have to have some kind of understanding of this. But, no matter what hehad going on he’d always put his family first and he’d be scary protective. Anyhint of a threat toward his family would be a surefire way to see an ugly sideof Oz that doesn’t come out often.

He’d support andlove his children, being slightly more involved than his own parents were, butnot so much that they don’t have room to find themselves. Most of the time he’dbe quiet and out of the way, maybe seeming less than interested, when inreality he’d pay close attention (just discreetly) and he’d always have ageneral idea of how his kids were feeling. In my head, once he got a handle onhis lycanthropy he’d be a natural empath. Whenever one of his kids was upset orstruggling he’d check in with them at just the right moment - they’d always wonderhow he managed to do that - and he’d already have an understanding of what theyhad going on. But, he’d let them tell him what they wanted at their own pace,and he’d patiently wait and listen.

Oz would neveryell. When he was disappointed he’d merely say so, calmly and matter-of-factly,explaining why. The only exception would be if whatever dipshit thing his kidshad done got them into real trouble with monsters or demons. Fierce Papa Ozwould come out then and scare the hell out of both the threat and the kids - not out of anger, but fear.

He’d let his kids paint his nails and he’d wear any ridiculous jewelry his kids made for him: maccaroni necklaces, beaded bracelets, whatever.

Anybody wanting to take one of his kids on a date or to a dance would feel weirdly intimidated by the scrawny ginger dad wearing the old band t-shirt and they wouldn’t be able to say why that was. He’d be perfectly polite and offer them a drink of water, ask a few smalltalk type questions, tell them the curfew and to have a good time. But, for some reason they’d feel like they just got sized up (because they did, and you’re damn right he offered them holy water to drink after inviting them into his house - it’s not his first day).

It doesn’t takemuch to make Oz happy. He appreciates the little things: a classic vinyl albumplayed on a record player through really good speakers, a nice microbrew beer,a walk through the woods on a sunny day. Oz has such a good poker face most ofthe time, but when he’s happy he gets a goofy smile on his face.

Big gifts orgestures (like parties) can make him feel overwhelmed, where his heart is sofull he doesn’t know what to do with himself. He’d get very quiet and humble,but he’d be very appreciative.

Oz loves a goodparty with lots of people in good spirits, drinking and dancing, having a goodtime.

Oz would have noproblem with getting old. At one point in his life, he wasn’t sure he’d survivehigh school. Every day after that has been a gift.

Oz would age well,despite an iffy diet and what others see as a lazy demeanor. But, turning intoa lupine beast once in a while to get a good workout in tends to keep onepretty active and fit. He’d also retain all his senses. They’d dull a bitcompared to his peak werewolf senses, but they’d still be considered good bytypical human standards. His hair would go gray and he’d be cool with being asilver fox.

He’d keep up withtechnology, particularly computers and laptops. He’d always have the newestcellphone, but he’d never know where the hell it was. He’d also constantly misplacehis keys and have to keep spares everywhere. No matter how old he got, he’dstill dress like he did in his twenties. 

Oz would introducehis grandkids to “real” music, insisting they listen to his record collection.He’d tell all kinds of stories about going to high school on a hellmouth,fighting demons on the regular, and insist one of his best friends was the mostpowerful witch he’d ever met. He’d have all kinds of stories from his years oftraveling around the world. They wouldn’t believe him, although they wouldn’tbe able to explain why he kept all those wooden stakes stashed around the house“just in case,” why they keep getting odd jewelry from a mysterious “great auntWillow,” or why there’s not a hint of silver anywhere in Grandpa Oz’s house.

Teddy, as odd as that sounds. He started out useless when we first met him, then gradually we find out he can actually be ruthless when properly motivated. But who would suspect nice guy Teddy? Me. I would.

Probably Dolores. I can take a lot of B.S., but when I’m done I am DONE. Honorable mention to Elsie. I tend to get obsessed with things that don’t add up.

Sabrina Spellman. She has enough similarities to the Melissa Joan Hart Sabrina to keep me grounded, but she’s righteous and badass and somehow she’s still sweet about it.

1. Name one of your favourite characters: Ellen Ripley (Alien). I would argue she’s the model for every strong female hero that came after her in cinema (or one of them. Jamie Lee Curtis’s Laurie Strode and Linda Hamilton’s Sarah Connor get honorable mentions). 2. Name one of your favourite villains: Glory (Buffy the Vampire Slayer). She really gave Buffy a run for her money, and in my opinion, she was an impossible villain to follow up. She was also an interesting foil to Buffy herself. Glory was powerful, put in a position she didn’t want to be in, and all she wanted was for things to get back to normal. She had an appreciation for fashion, kicking ass in style at all times. Her superficial attitude and quippy humor greatly resembled Buffy’s pre-calling personality. Glory was definitely a tough act to follow. Honorable mentions: Lucifer in Supernatural: 5.05 - “The End,” Paul Spector in The Fall, The werewolf in Silver Bullet. 3. One actor that you look up to and why: Keanu Reeves. Talented actor, badass, and from all accounts a very kind soul. 4. One actress that you look up to and why: Nicole Kidman. She’s intelligent, talented, and elegant. 5. Favourite episode from any show you watch (or just an episode you love): From a show I currently watch, Supernatural: 12.11 - “Regarding Dean.” This was a very good use of the supernatural as a metaphor, and Jensen Ackles delivered a heartbreaking performance of a man slowly succumbing to memory loss. From any show ever: One Tree Hill: 8.01 - “Asleep at Heaven’s Gate.” This show wasn’t afraid to experiment and throw in a risky episode here and there. This episode was not only well written, but beautifully acted and it delivered a jaw-dropping twist. This was one of those episodes that hopped genres, but did it so seamlessly I never noticed. 6. Favourite show and why? Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It was the first world I got lost in. I fell in love with the characters and the universe. I still am. 7. If you could live in any fictional universe which one would you live in? Harry Potter. I wanna go to Hogwarts. 8. Name 3 OTPs: Nathan and Haley (One Tree Hill), Buffy and Angel (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Rory and Jess (Gilmore Girls). 9. One character you have a crush on: Oz (Buffy the Vampire Slayer). It’s totally me to open up a book, read from it aloud, and end up opening a portal to some ooky dimension. 16. Who do you think is a misunderstood character? Faith (Buffy the Vampire Slayer). She was a young woman in pain who didn’t get the help she needed. Then she made a mistake that condemned her but would not have condemned Buffy due to their differing histories/reputations. Sure, the murder spree was a bit much, but she could have been helped long before that if someone had just asked a few important questions. Like, maybe Giles. You know, the resident guy who’s supposed to watch the slayers. I’m not saying she’s blameless, but misunderstood for sure. 17. Which character do you wish you were siblings/best friends/dating with? Siblings: Rory Gilmore (Gilmore Girls), Best friends: Xander Harris (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Dating: Nathan Scott (One Tree Hill). 18. Which Hogwarts house are you in? I’ve gotten both Slytherin and Griffindor. It must depend on my mood. 19. What are three things you've learned from one of the shows you watch? From Stranger Things: 1) Friends don’t lie, 2) It’s never a bad time to add a new member to your party, 3) Never give up on the people you love, even when they’re lost in some weirdo alternate universe and everyone thinks they’re dead. 20. If you could be a writer for any show you wish, how might you develop the plot/characters? It would definitely depend on the show. I’d love to take a crack at Carnivale making it slightly more accessible as far as the lore went. 21. What's one of your favourite quotes from a show you watch? “I like the quiet.” Xander, Buffy the Vampire Slayer 22. Favourite type of AU? The kind featuring doppelgangers of beloved characters in the ultimate “what if” scenario.  23. Write a brief headcanon for one of your OTPs: Buffy and Angel (Buffy the Vampire Slayer). Buffy is in her forties and has somewhat retired from active slaying, becoming more of a trainer and counselor for slayers and watchers. Angel becomes human. Suddenly Buffy’s a cougar dating a younger man and they have all kinds of jokes. Angel secretly loves being able to joke with her about how she’s getting older because it means she’s having a long and happy life, which she once thought would be impossible. Buffy has no idea this is why he jokes with her about it and gets super annoyed with him (“I’m NOT old! Hello? Which one of us has had a bicentennial again?”). 24. What's one show you don't watch but you're still in the fandom? Game of Thrones. I try once in a while to read the books. 25. Why do you love the shows you watch/books you read/fandoms you're in? All for different reasons. I like universes with rich settings or lore that I can study and sink my teeth into. I like well developed characters I can invest my time in. I like fandoms where we can debate our different theories and opinions without being lashed out at (which is a rare find nowadays).

What book did you recently finish? The Walking Dead, Compendium One [if graphic novels don’t count, then the last novel before that was Moonlight Mile by Dennis Lehane (but graphic novels totally count)]

What’s a book that’s been on your to-read list for a long time? American Gods by Neil Gaiman

What’s the next book you’re hoping to read? Dawn by Octavia E. Butler

Is there a book you own, but aren’t planning on reading? The Mortal Instruments series

What was your favourite series as a kid? Would you still read it now? Harry Potter. Yes I would.

What’s your favourite series now? The Kenzie and Gennaro novels by Dennis Lehane

Fantasy or sci-fi? I’ve read more fantasy, but am about to read more sci-fi

What’s a book you want to buy? Something from the Isaac Asimov arena.

Have you ever judged a book by its cover? Its contents? No, but an eye-catching cover will prompt me to flip through a book I may not have considered otherwise.

Have you ever bought a book because of who the author was? Yes. It’s why I have so many Stephen King, Dennis Lehane, and Anne Rice novels. 

Have you ever read a celebrity memoir? If so, whose was it? I’ve read a few. The most recent was Corey Feldman’s Coreyography.

Are you a fan of autobiographies? Not generally. It depends on whose it is.

Fiction or non-fiction? Moreso fiction.

Favourite fiction genre? Crime/Thriller or Horror.

Favourite non-fiction genre? True Crime. Music’s cool too.

Historical fiction: yea or nay? I haven’t read much of it, so it’s a nay for me. But, you never know.

Do you read the book or watch the movie first? Depends. I watched season one of Game of Thrones before I picked up A Song of Ice and Fire novels, but read the first Mortal Instruments novel before watching the movie and the first Fifty Shades novel before watching the first film. I watched Gone Girl before I read the book. It’s six of one, half a dozen of the other to me.

Paperback or hardcover? Paperback usually because it tends to be more affordable. But if I went to a book signing type situation I would totally spring for the hardcover.

Do you read e-books? Sometimes, but they’re not my preference. If it’s a book I don’t think I’ll like I tend to go for the e-format, whereas with a book I expect to enjoy I prefer to have a physical copy.

How many bookshelves do you have? Uhhh... in my room/office eight? It’s sort of a funky one made of PVC pipes winding around a corner of my wall (to prevent cat jumpage). I’ve also commandeered most of the shelves in the house.

How do you organize your books? I don’t. Every time you want to pick out a book it’s an adventure.

Do you prefer borrowing books from friends, borrowing books from a library, or buying them? Buying them.

How willing are you to lend your books to other people? Depends on the book and the person I’m lending to. For the most part I tend to be okay with it.

In what condition do you keep your books? They get a little worn from multiple reads, but I keep them neat. No folded pages, no doodles in the margins (unless it’s a used book that had that stuff pre-built in).

What’s your favourite book? Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice

What books can always make you cry? Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

What books can always make you smile? Childhood classics like Alice in Wonderland

What’s the biggest book you’ve ever read, and how many pages did it have? I think it was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I believe it had over 900 pages. I’m not positive.

What character do you connect with the most? Like, of all the characters ever in book land? Oh, jeez. Uh... Probabl Eleanor from The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson.

1. race to play as?

I haven’t tried all of them yet, but out of Nord, Redguard, High Elf, Wood Elf, Dark Elf, and Breton, Wood Elf is definitely my jam. Alchemy, archery, and smithing are my bread and butter, especially in early stages. The Redguard is a close second.

2. class (ie rogue, mage, warrior, etc) to play as?

These aren’t really a thing in Skyrim in the same way as the previous games. I think I’m a Thief. I like lowkey stealth.

3. heavy armor set?

I tend to favor light armor unless I’m playing a Nord, but I like the Bonemeal armor best if I have to pick one.

Elven or Dwarven mace

I’m not generally a two-handed fan because of the slow speed, but a glass axe does okay in a pinch.

7. bow/type of arrows?

Ebony bow, orchish arrows. Elven arrows are nice, too.

8. Daedric quest?

I haven’t done them all, but so far Sheogorath: The Mind of Madness. Very Inception. Loved it.

9. Daedric artifact?

Masque of Clavicus Vile. Adds a nice little speech perk.

10. Daedric prince?

Nocturnal. She was totally unexpected and sexy as hell.

11. City?

Riften. It’s like an adorable littel fishing village with this seedy underbelly and corrupt rulership. Like Sons of Anarchy meets Haven in a high fantasy setting. I love it. 

12. Town/Village?

I don’t think I have one. I’m not sure what counts as a “town.” I guess maybe Riverwood if I have to pick one because it’s got that secret spy room in the inn.

13. Hold?

Whiterun. That area is just so pleasant to walk around in.

14. Jarl?

Idgrod Ravencrone. She’s like the crazy grandmother people bring to parties and everyone rolls their eyes at her, but nobody wants to call her out because she’s badass.

15. Court wizard?

Farengar Secret-Fire. He starts out as kind of obnoxious and snobby, but then you find out he’s a big ol’ dragon nerd nerding about dragons. He also sounds like a bored Johnny Depp.

16. Purchasable home?

Breezehome. It probably has the least space of all the homes, but it’s just so darn cute.

I haven’t done them all yet.

Necromancy’s pretty cool.

I don’t use them.

Increased stamina.

Fiiiire!
