here are a few resources i discovered on the internet in regards to grubbing. i suggest exploring all the links if you seek further guidance/information. all of this came about not truly in search of dinning etiquette, but rather to explore mindful eating habits. it just so happens that mindful eating & etiquette go hand in hand. hope you enjoy!
Eat More Like a Lady...
So how exactly does one eat more like a lady?
1. Sit down to eat. Stay calmly seated until completely done.
2. Cut your food into half-inch squares or smaller.
3. Chew your bites 25 to 50 times.
4. Wait 5 seconds before getting the next forkful.
5. When eating meat, cut one piece off and eat it thoroughly before cutting another. No more checkerboard cutting like you would do for a toddler.
6. Put your fork down between bites…this one probably goes with #4. This one will be really hard, especially when really hungry.
7. Don’t talk with your mouth full.
8. Chew with your mouth closed. Again, knew this one but it’s always a good reminder.
9. Break your bread, don’t bite into your bread. Then, butter your bread one…piece…at…a…time…not the whole roll.
10. Sit up. Wrists and forearms may rest on the table but that’s it. Absolutely no elbows. When you are tired this one is a hard one.
11. Always scoop food away from you onto the proper utensil.
12. Don’t blow on your food. If it’s too hot, take the hint and wait.
A few other interesting tidbits:
1. A napkin should never be used as a handkerchief. If you need to sneeze or blow your nose quickly excuse yourself from the table
.2. Dab your mouth with a napkin. Don’t smear it across.
3. Dishes are to be passed counter-clockwise.
4. Exercise not only increases your calorie burn, it also speeds up your digestive system.
5. Your stomach is originally the size of your fist…eat more food than that and it stretches. God designed for us to eat small amounts at a time so we should therefore stop super-sizing.
6. The brain needs about 20 minutes to obtain that satisfied feeling after eating.
