Star Spotting in Oliver Lane

Tucked down Oliver Lane in the Melbourne CBD, Lucy Lui is a touch seductive with its long tunnel like entrance and throbbing red neon sign. It’s the feeling of walking into an underground night club, the psychedelic lenticular place mats adding to the atmosphere. 

Blair and I loved Philippe Mouchel’s PM24 of which Lucy Lui has taken it’s place. The french fine dining of PM24 is completely different to the upbeat and vibrant Lucy Lui. The staff are very friendly and accommodate fructose or gluten intolerance with ease. The vibe is pumping, even at the early sitting it was a hive of laugher, romance and indulgence. The delicious menu is filled with options for everyone. With a group of 6 we enjoyed a number of different dishes. The stand outs being the Rare Breed Sticky Pork Belly, the Chili Fried Chicken Ribs and The Slow Roast Lamb Shoulder. We also indulged in the HUGE 1kg Angus Eye Fillet special. I really enjoyed this dish, the meat was super smooth and flavoursome however some of my companions found it a little too pink. 

We accompanied dinner with numerous cocktails and a few glasses of Choya Umeshu on ice (AKA Plum Wine).    

All in all we recommend Lucy Lui’s for groups and couples, the mixture of communal and booth seating suits both occasions. The vibe is, oh so Melbourne and the fact they allow bookings is an added bonus when you have the walk in only 'Chin Chin' and ‘Meatballs & Wine’ around the corner.

My comments:

Grill’d is so great for a casual dinner out with the family or friends. They have a great menu for all types of eaters. They have the best chips ever and of course, the service is great every time.

Tonight, I had the ‘zen hen’ chicken burger with chips. I ordered it specifically for the coriander but..couldn’t really taste it T^T. But I think all the burgers here are super tasty thanks to their perfect bread: crisp on the edges and soft in the centre. It’s a chain store so expect themed colourful restaurant interiors each time with indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is really adorable with high tables/chairs and white picket fences. The wallpaper is also quite unique (burger comics).

Another great thing about it is that every time you eat there, you will be actively helping out the community. Each Grill’d store supports 3 community organisations each week. When you order, you will be given a bottle cap. Then you pick a charity then pop your bottle cap into the appropriate jar. The charity with the most caps will receive $300!! 2nd and 3rd place won’t miss out though, receiving $100 each!!

I love going to Grill’d because it’s local, tasty and helpful to the community all at once!
