Romancing - Setting up the light

The first sketch was my initial idea for the lighting in the scene, whereas I tend to introduce the light from the top left corner in most drawings. But then I realized that I do this in most drawings, so I attempted another idea. Here, I wanted to put my dinosaurs under dappled light. Something, that would make the scene more intimate and hopefully focus more on these two romancing dinos.

Romancing

Fitting to Valentine’s Day, I can post this little sketch I did of the Daspletosaurus from Dinosaur King and my dino. He expresses his sincere love and affection by an elaborate display, while my dear dinoself circles him with a bright blush blooming on her face.

Such scenes warm my heart and make me smile.

Romancing

After seeing some processes from other artists, I took my Valentine sketch to work on composition by using a handy graphic that includes the golden ratio and the Fibonacci spiral. (You can find it on Wikipedia’s entry about the golden ratio)

I moved the two dinos around until they were placed along the lines as seen in the overlaid diagram. The background elements got arranged along the spiral. Usually, I don’t put much planning into a background that is filled with plants and I rather apply brush strokes here and there until some shape forms and turns into a tree or a bush.

Daspletosaurus coming out of her den (2019/09/23)

A Daspletosaurus female coming out of her den after a rest. The air is rich with the various smells of the dinosaurian inhabitants in her territory she wishes to survey. Others of her kind might enter it as they follow the herbivores. Before she leaves, the urge to stretch these muscles overcomes the female. So, she stretches her body, yawns with her jaws and sways her tail.

I drew some inspiration from “Path of Titans”.
