i do think a lot of people arguing over preferring angel or spike as characters really just boils down to spike being a lover cursed to be a monster, angel being a monster cursed to be a lover, and different people are just more compelled by one or the other

#which of course isnt to say someone cant be both. i mean i think different ways of being both is what a lot of btvs is about yk #but im thinking about liam before he was turned and how he really was such a chaotic hedonist with a wicked mean streak #and william being such a sensitive little poet #and then angelus being a more focused hedonist whos really honed his ability for cruelty #and spike spends a lot of time mostly just being dru's lover and trying to fit in with vampires #angelus gets cursed with a soul and has to feel the weight of what hes done and know he cannot be redeemed #then falls for buffy and suffers further knowing he needs to try to do good anyways #plus angelus in i only have eyes for you being absolutely disgusted at how the ghost possession did the worst thing he can think of to him #cuz it made him feel love #btvs #dinosting #angel btvs #spike btvs #anyways. this hat isnt gonna knit itself. back to work.

hm. says a lot about willows character that in s2, when she and buffy are playing Anywhere But Here, even in willow's made up hypothetical fantasy she isn't necessarily like...wanted. like in buffy's fantasy she's on a beach and a hot guy is massaging her feet, but in willow's fantasy she's in a very full restaurant and the waitstaff seat a hot guy at her table because they have to due to there literally being no other options. like you'd think it would have been just as easy for him to be in the full restaurant and see her and say he'd love for her to sit with him. but instead she came up with a scenario where shes not being chosen as an object of affection, rather she's sort of doing a favor for someone, but even then not in a way that gives her any real agency or involves any risk.
