Erina and Her Sons
Because Erina would love and accept all of the sons DIO made with Jonathan’s body.
Let’s start with the relatively easy children:
- Everybody thinks that Erina and Giorno are biologically related. The two look very similar and are also similar in their disposition. Both are more introverted, enjoy studying biology and can help people medically, and are truly virtuous at heart. Though Erina struggles with the fact that Giorno is, no matter how you spin it, a murderer who now runs the largest mafia in Italy, even if he is improving the world through his actions. Erina would also make sure Giorno never went hungry after finding out he was neglected as a child, always sending homecooked meals to the villa. Erina is also the first person to assure Giorno that, despite how he looks like DIO, Erina sees so much of Jonathan in him. Due to her status as Giorno’s mother, Erina is possibly the most protected woman in the world and Giorno cherishes her deeply.
- While Rikiel was always a sickly child, his propensity to completely freeze up over the smallest stressors always stood out to Erina. After taking him to several specialists (pulling some strings within the hospital she worked at), Rikiel was diagnosed with Panic Disorder. While Rikiel was initially bullied due to this, Erina was the first person to use her son’s condition in a neutral tone, not as an insult. She was always there to comfort Rikiel and never allowed him to think that a problem with his brain chemistry was his own fault. Erina also noted Rikiel’s honorable nature and fostered that trait, alongside his more compassionate nature. Since Rikiel was no longer able to attend school due to his disorder, Erina enrolled him in newly established online programs so that he could still keep up with his brothers academically. And once Rikiel revealed that he wanted to go into the fashion business, Erina supported him all the way and even offered to model for him if needed. Rikiel always ensured that Erina was caught up on trends, if not directly basing his work on things she wore as a working mother. ‘Scrub-chic’ just happened to explode onto the scene after Rikiel noticed that Erina seemed to consider her work-clothes ugly, just a coincidence.
Erina honestly struggles with parenting both Donatello and Ungalo, but she’s going to try with all her heart:
- Erina notes both Donatello’s ruthlessness and intelligence, quickly realizing that he could turn into another DIO if put under the wrong circumstances. And he had been in those circumstances previously, prison was horrible to Donatello, and Erina knew she had her work cut out for her. So she always does her best to teach Donatello to be kind above all else. Due to Donatello’s observant nature, she mostly achieves this through modeling behavior for him: taking time out of her day to invite people on the streets to lunches that she’ll pay for in full, utilizing her job as a doctor to show Donatello how selflessness won’t always get you hurt, and always trying to be awake in time to help her sons with whatever they need to get ready for the day. Erina cares about Donatello regardless of how quickly he learns this behavior, and it takes him quite a while to learn to prioritize compassion. But the two bond anyways, developing a mutual trust if not a more mother-son relationship initially. Erina’s lessons about kindness come to a head after she has a terrible day at work where she had to tell a pregnant woman that her husband had died suddenly, taking the brunt of the woman’s hurt and empathizing a bit too much. She comes home and Donatello immediately notices that something is off. Instead of simply ignoring Erina’s off behavior, Donatello asks Erina what happened and holds her when she inevitably breaks down. He does his best to comfort her and only complains about the work he should be doing instead of helping Erina once or twice. Erina, once she can stop weeping, is satisfied knowing that Donatello was kind to her without expecting anything in return. From here, their relationship improves dramatically and Donatello also begins to improve as a person.
- Ungalo was the hardest to handle by far. He takes after all of DIO’s worst traits and seems to have very few good ones at times. Ungalo takes his bastardness much more personally than the rest of his brothers, occasionally redirecting that anger unfairly at Erina since she’s the one actively trying to take on a parental role in his life. To top it all off, Ungalo is still struggling with addiction and isn’t exactly looking to get clean any time soon. Erina knows that this will be a test of both her kindness and her patience, and does her best to be a good mother to Ungalo regardless. She sends him to rehab and does her best to ensure he stays clean afterwards. Erina tries to tolerate his more...sadistic nature and encourages him to channel it into creative work rather than onto real people. This is when Erina takes note of his incredible creativity, channeling his imagination into art and writing with stride. She begins to see a light at the end of the tunnel for Ungalo, and guides him on the way. While Erina helps Ungalo apply for comic writing position, Ungalo begins to show how much he cares for Erina. He asks her questions about Jonathan and genuinely listens as she rambles on and on about him for tens of minutes without rest. Eventually, he gives her a birthday gift he’s been working on for months: a portrait of what he imagines Jonathan would look like if he’d grown old with Erina, filling in old images with Jonathan throughout the years and showing him as Erina remembers him.
⚠️jjba part 5 and 6 spoilers⚠️
I love Dio with all my heart like this fucker is my everything but he sometimes doesn't think things through. Like his goal was it so eliminate the joestars but on the other hand he created new ones. This man couldn't keep his pants up and now has 4 Joestar kids. I'm wondering if he was aware of that or if he was simply stupid. Anyways, please show giorno all your love and affection cuz he deserves it. Giorno antis dni.
