Udonlicious 🍜 . As I made a return visit to Uzumakiya Udon, I knew my initial instinct had been right . Just as Kemuri’s oxtail udon was one of the best things I tried during the pandemic in 2020, the Uzumakiya-exclusive Utsuke Udon and Shime Saba are the best dishes I had in 2021 . The shime saba is a modest portion (limited to only 10 servings per day) but it’s a must order and perfectly matched with onions, green onions, wasabi and a dipping sauce . But if I’m restricted to only picking a single dish each year, it is the Utsuke Dipping Udon that gets my vote . The chilled, silky smooth noodles are perfectly al dente, drizzled with a preciously small amount of chili oil, and then dipped into an umami packed hot broth ready to be slurped joyfully .
