So today in rehearsal, I was working with the lighting crew to re-adjust some lights. (I held the ladder, so helpful) We weren't sure where the ladder was so we had to ask the director for their keys to open various rooms, but here's the catch: They wanted their keys back IMMEDIATELY. So we had to ask them multiple times for their keys, but they were chatting with some actors and whenever we went into the other room to get the keys, they were always mad at us for some reason because we interrupted them? Like what else are we supposed to do, lockpick the doors?

My stress inducing director is gone!

She decided to move to another school and didn't tell us, just like how she never told me whenever the show order changed. It hasn't really sunk in yet, but I am relieved. That woman was the cause of so much of my anxiety and she is finally gone.

Some of the actors are like: "omg she was so nice!!!". Honey, please. "She communicated with me so well!!!" Seriously?

Ah, the duality of man.

Anyways, we're getting a different drama teacher to run our theatre company this year, so that's gonna hopefully be fun.

I have some great news to tell my therapist.

Why does my director want to turn a scene of this play into a musical?

She decided a serious scene where two characters at a time (there are multiple pairs) are arguing about stuff isn't artistic enough or something.

So, she decided "how about we use the instrumental of Cell Block Tango from Chicago the musical and time our lines to that???"

uhh, what?

We've been rehearsing this show since October, why only now, three months until opening, does she want to turn a fairly easy scene into something we'd have to practice for weeks?

We'd have to rewrite the lines or change the pacing just so they could fit with the speed of the song, or I would be forced to chop up the song and do something with it.

Have any of you in the tech theatre community gone through something as ridiculous as this?

Listening without my ears, but with my eyes...you can see expressions that sounds as fluid as music.
