I'm so embarassed to request this HELP (also thats a bit long cuz i like yapping)
ok so, during the Sburb season, Dirk build a bot just to be his assistent and nothing more. But then little by little he started to put better metal parts instead of just scrap and improve their Al to the point they're almost like a human being.
He see them like his kid in a fatherly way and actually deeply care about them but Dirk don't admit/recognize this (bc he's Dirk + It would be very embarrassing to admit that you feel attached with a piece of metal.)
english isn't my first language so I hope you understand this!! This HAS to be platonic btw
lmao never be embarrassed to ask for something from me speak ur truth anon

When he first built the little guy, it couldn’t do much of anything.
Its only purpose was to help Dirk out with some menial tasks around the battlefield in case he happened to have his hands full.
He diligently captchalogued it every time he headed to a new area, careful not to leave it behind.
Pretty quickly, he noticed the thing getting dented and having some trouble performing its usual functions.
He guessed that he hadn’t correctly anticipated everything that it would need to withstand, and as it was, it wouldn’t last until the end of the session.
So he scrounged up some scrap metal and bandaged up his little companion
There, all better.
In the stretches of silence from Jake, Dirk didn’t know what to do with himself besides float around all morose like he had one foot in the grave already.
At least he had his little robot to keep him company.
If only it could talk like Hal, though. Man, that pair of shades was like a reflection of everything he was doing wrong.
He’d kill to have something else to talk to that wasn’t annoyed with him at present.
He didn’t see the harm in updating the code of his little helper bot.
It was a piece of cake to get the thing to talk, but it could only say the simplest of replies.
Without using a brain scan, he knew it would be slightly harder to make a personable automaton.
However, he knew that as it continued to learn it would be able to compute more and more.
So Dirk began talking to it.
He felt a little bit silly, but also imagined that this must be what people used to feel like when their babies start babbling in some convoluted way.
Little by little, the robot did learn more. Dirk was a bit surprised at the pace it could adapt. Although, he shouldn’t have been since he’s the one who made the tech.
He felt a little pride swell in his chest whenever his pal picked up a new phrase or responded in an expressly complex sentence.
It seemed to have the intelligence of a small child by now and he felt protective over the thing.
He didn’t want to confront what kinds of implications came with getting attached to a bot, though.
