Iodi “Hermanos” b/w “Sonrie” (1976)
German brothers Wenger (Jorn and Dirk) were born in Paraguay and started their career, playing with garage-rock outfit The Rabbits and saw first wax on the very rare Lo Más Nuevo e.p. (1969). After The Rabbits dissolved, they studied music in Germany and received an essential edge from Karlheinz Stockhausen, then moved back to Asuncion to build their own (Jodi) studio and went from there, which they gained popularity in Argentina and Central and South America.
Posted through The Real Vinyl Digging & Archaeology (no relation to Vinyle Archeology), it’s these types of obscure discoveries we aim for possible inclusion of our Omega WUSB bonus broadcasts. A stand-alone single, “Sonrie” was what got us here, which really had us thinking of Edwin Birdsong’s “Cola Bottle Baby” (’79) thanks to its thick slurpy basslines and keys. “Hermanos”, with its’ happy message of close familial brotherhood, would make Philadelphia really reconsider its’ standing as The City Of Brotherly Love. It wasn’t the most sophisticated thing created, but can you fault The Wengers experimental focus in creating their own ideas in reverb, echo, and sound effects?
