The parties he had attended that term had a long mean streak of ending up in tragedy and Fabian has no reason to believe that the Yule Ball won’t follow suit. He has to admit though, going stag with Dirk helps with his apprehensions for the evening. Unlike his peers, Fabian didn’t really see the need to ask someone out as a date. However, his conversation with Frank last Halloween stuck with him. Try as they might, they can’t possibly foresee everything. If they did, they would go mental. Letting the fight against the enemies take over his life means that they’ve kind of won already. Going with Dirk helps remind him that his life is still his. And he’s free to enjoy it as he sees fit.
After dressing up in a simple dark blue suit, Fabian made his way to the younger Ravenclaw’s room, hoping to go to the Ball together. “Hey,” he said, upon reaching his room. “Are you ready?”
