The Government of Rwanda has prioritized the transition to e-mobility to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions and improve the wellbeing of its citizens, thus contributing to achieving national and global goals. Transport contributes 13% of Rwanda’s national GHG emissions.
While the cost for the purchase of e-buses is the main deterrent for bus operators, the savings from reduced operations and maintenance are substantial and are bolstered by the current incentives in place. Furthermore, while buses only comprise 0.74% of the total number of vehicles, they nevertheless disproportionately contribute 39.1% of GHG emissions in the transport sector in Rwanda.

Now More Electric Plug-In Car Sales Than Diesel Car Sales In Europe
Diesel cars have long been a mainstay of the auto market in Europe (they have a much smaller market share in the US). A couple of decades ago, when concerns about carbon emissions began to surface, German automakers, rather than pursuing electrification, placed their bets on diesels, which emit slightly less carbon per mile driven than gas (petrol) vehicles. Today, after decades of deception and a few billion-dollar fines, it appears that diesel’s day is done.
About a year ago, auto industry analyst JATO Dynamics reported that sales of electrified passenger vehicles (hybrids, plug-in hybrids and pure EVs) had overtaken those of diesels for the first time ever. Now the next milestone has been passed — in August, plug-in vehicles (plug-in hybrids and pure EVs) outsold diesels in Europe for the first time, taking a 21% share of the market, compared to 20% for diesels.

Researchers at EPFL Switzerland find a way to extract and store CO2 from commercial vehicles exhausts
Researchers at EPFL, Switzerland have now come up with a novel solution to this problem: capturing CO2 directly in the trucks' exhaust system and liquefying it in a box on the vehicle's roof. The liquid CO2 is then delivered to a service station, where it is turned into conventional fuel using renewable energy. The project is being coordinated by the Industrial Process and Energy Systems Engineering group, led by Francois Marechal, at EPFL's School of Engineering. The patented concept is the subject of a paper published in Frontiers in Energy Research.
The whole process takes place within a capsule measuring 2 m x 0.9 m x 1.2 m, placed above the driver's cabin. "The weight of the capsule and the tank is only 7 percent of the vehicle's payload," adds Marechal. "The process itself uses little energy because all of its stages have been optimized."
This is not the long term solution we need but may be a great way to be short term solution for bigger commercial vehicles at least. What we don't know yet either is what the commercial cost is expected to be. Much is mentioned about CO2 but nothing about NOx emissions (toxic to human health) which is about 67% of diesel emissions versus CO2 which is about 12%. Diesel also has about 6x to 10x higher particle emissions than gasoline engines.

World's Largest EV (110-ton dump truck) never has to be recharged and is saving between 11,000 and 22,000 gallons of diesel fuel a year
The dump truck, at 45 tons, ascends the 13-percent grade and takes on 65 tons of ore. With more than double the weight going back down the hill, the beast's regenerative braking system recaptures more than enough energy to refill the charge the eDumper used going up.
Marking that trip around 20 times a day, Kuhn Schweitz says the eDumper produces 200 kwh of surplus energy every day, or 77 megawatt-hours a year. A typical dump truck uses between 11,000 and 22,000 gallons of diesel fuel a year. That saves up to 196 metric tons of global-warming carbon-dioxide gas a year.
The world is starting to think differently about energy. This would not have been a reality 10 or 20 years ago. Just ironic that the 1970's or so many cities had started ripping out their electric trams and buses, and the now the "wheel" has turned and electric is coming back strongly.
