Blue\x80 FEATURED ARTIST Jon Cates // Experimenting with forms of openness by focusing on collectively shared experiences, Chicago-based new media/glitch artist jonCates identifies the inextricable tangle of humans, their many systems, and the many systems they reside within. Making Noise Art && Musics across broken boundaries of the Unstable Arts now known as Glitch Art, from the 1990s until today, jonCates continues to illuminate what it is to be human in techno-social culture. In 2005 he created the concept of Dirty New Media Art AKA d1Ɍ+y̶ ̶N̶3WWW_M3DI∆. then in 2012 he crafted the concept of the #postglitch. His most recent projects include his Glitch Western feature film, 鬼鎮 (Ghosttown), premiering in late 2018. jonCates teaches, as an Associate Professor, at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) in the departments of Film, Video, New Media and Animation (FVNMA) and Art History, Theory and Criticism. website
