I started my love for house music in the 90s but never got into it seriously until I started going out to dance events by Toti Dalmacion’s Consortium/Deep Fried sometime in 2008, yes I’m a late bloomer. Of course, I heard and read about places like Blue Cafe, Insomnia, 78 Orange, Sambo’s, ABG’s, Euphoria and Mars but were too young/shy to go back then. I was able to go check out Colin Mackay’s Joy though before it closed down. I love dancing, it’s my regular exercise. But it never really occurred to me to be on the other side of the room. A few years later, friends started commenting and asking why don’t I explore playing music aka DJing.. So with inspiration from my dance floor mates, DJ friends and the monthly club nights I supported, I got more inspired to explore the idea a second time around. With this in mind, I started going out more, listening to more DJs, observing the crowd and discovering/finding/exploring the style of music that I like. In 2011, I discovered Time and since then it became my home, a home where I met some people whom I built friendships along the way. In spite of not having my own gears, and no formal training, I started to get the hang of it. Aptly, my first gig was at Elephant for their first anniversary last year, and from there I started getting interesting gigs, from a stylish pop up launch, to a fashionable birthday party, to a French gastronomy dinner, and recently, Fete dela Musique. But the question being asked often recently, is when I will play at Time? This question makes me nervous as I never see myself playing at Time. And with pushing and encouragement from people who believe in me, I decided to go for it. So recorded my mix from my Fete dela Musique gig and submitted it as my demo to Pav, with the disclaimer that my mixing still rough. 9 days later, blow me down, I was given the green light! So finally, it’s happening from dance floor to decks, I’m plucking my cherry tonight as I play for you and this place I considered as my sanctuary. Come and hear me play, the #DirtyThursday way. (at TIME in Manila)
