[Description: Image is a screenshot of my Tumblr inbox, with two anonymous messages. Both are asking why I have begun writing descriptions for pictures. End description.] Ah, yes, I was waiting for this. So basically, yes and no. Yes, it is helpful to people whose pictures or videos won’t load, of course, but that is not the only reason. It’s also a matter of accessibility. It allows users of screen readers to understand what’s going on in the picture or video for themselves. It allows D/deaf or hoh people to comprehend audio better. It can also help people with learning disabilities or developmental disabilities to understand things more easily, if they need information to be explained through text or if they just have an easier time understanding if things are presented in multiple different ways. It can be a bit of extra effort, sure, and I will tell you I’m already saving up posts to be reblogged when I have more time/energy for captioning them, so I can make this a consistent thing. But I believe the extra few minutes spent on each post is worth it to make tumblr a little bit more accessible and fun for everyone. I’d link some posts or resources or smth but I’m v tired and am probably gonna sleep soon. Don’t be afraid to message me if you have any other questions! Thanks for asking, dear anons. c:
