Subversive Spirit, Divine capsizer of the status quo, as we enter Disability Pride Month, help us flip society on its head so that the last are first, "weakness" proven strength, and interdependence revealed as true power. Amen.
Happy Disability Pride Month! A prayer will be shared each day of July — on here, over on Instagram (same url as this tumblr), and via text message, which you can sign up for with this form.
If you're a disabled person of faith who'd like to write 1-3 of these short daily prayers, message me!
Lord, comfort our community as we grieve missed opportunities, the ableism we face, and how our lives could have been different. Grant us peace as we sit in difficult moments, and strength as we seek a more equitable world.
Thanks to Sara P. for today's prayer.
May you find the hope and encouragement to do what you want to do.
Thanks to @IconicAnemone for today's prayer.
Unite us, Lord Christ. Strengthen us to care for and protect each other, knowing that in you we are one. In you our souls and bodies share their common need.
Thank you to Sophie for today's prayer.
When we are buffeted by the lies the world tells — that we are useless; that we are sinful; that we are broken — buoy us up on your boundless love. Fill us with a fierce joy in the Truth of our own worthiness that nothing can drown out.
In a world that tells us our worth is in our productivity, rest is holy defiance. God, give us courage to rest. Help us fully absorb the good news that our worth is simply in being — in being loved by you.
Creator of all, you know our bodies and minds. Thank you for creating in us such wild and wonderful diversity. Help us to take delight in ourselves as You do, even and especially when others cannot. We are made in Your image; thank You for that, O Holy One.
Today's prayer comes from Sarah S, @asexy-phoenix.
