Happy international day of dance 💃🏻 to you all, but especially the wonderful people at @rubicondance who have kept and got so many people dancing during a global pandemic. I really don’t know what my auntie Emma and I would’ve done without our dance classes this last year; they are the guaranteed bright spots in our week! I miss being in the studio so much, but dancing at hone during lockdown has actually been really good for my creativity and confidence; it feels safer trying something new when there’s no one in the room to see you look silly! Plus @estherkilbride ‘s excellent and creative teaching has helped us all blossom. Both I and Emma realised dancing is not about looking perfect; it’s about the movement feeling good, and it’s about having fun. I’m glad every day that I decided to try dance classes; dancing has given me a sense of confidence in my body that I’d not had for a very long time... and that confidence has only grown and led to me trying all sorts of exercise I never would’ve otherwise. Dance also reminds me that whilst my body causes me immense pain, it can also be something that is a joy to move. Plus, Rubicon dance classes led to me meeting some of the most amazing people I feel lucky to call friends, including my now best pal @lucyfishleigh95 is a jays willing to build blanket forts to hide in when life is too overwhelming 🥰❤️!! One day we’ll all be able to get together and dance in the same room... for now, zoom is pretty good (even when Esther’s mic occasionally makes her sound like a Dalek)! Now, go have a boogie! #happyinternationaldayofdance #disabilitydance #dancingmakesmehappy https://www.instagram.com/p/CORBFA0DhPP/?igshid=1roscsz4v99nt
We went for a walk today and dad left us in the car for five minutes and we did this 😂 hope it makes you smile! #dancingbymyself #disabilitydance https://www.instagram.com/p/CN5n3qYheyy/?igshid=68mv6aagk70h
I had so much fun dancing 💃🏻 with these lovely ladies yesterday!! It’s so lovely seeing people get more confident and comfortable having a boogie ❤️ #dancingdivas #disabilitydance https://www.instagram.com/p/CNro2JIDsKP/?igshid=19uu1ky0ujw23
So I was still feeling poorly today and I had to drag myself out of bed tbh. But I had the best time dancing with these amazing ladies! It’s so so lovely to see everyone enjoying moving to music together, and enjoying a chat with fellow warriors who just Get it 🥰❤️ So proud of everyone who came to boogie for the first time today; it’s scary with all these new people, but you did it! I love you all, you superstars 🌟🥰💙 #dancingdivas #disabilitydance #warriorssupportingwarriors #proud https://www.instagram.com/p/CL-Go7sBkbA/?igshid=18aq3jfuc78vf
I’m so, SO proud of my amazing friend @fighting_illness_on_wheels for joining myself and my lovely friends for her first ever dance class with @rubicondance 💃🏻🥳🥰👏🏻!! Joining new activities, especially anything physical, when you’re chronically ill and disabled can be so scary. What if the class isn’t accessible to you? What if people aren’t accepting? What if I can’t do something everyone else is doing? Luckily I invited/recruited Roo because I know our class is full of amazing, kind people who are just there to have fun and learn. Our teacher Esther says no two people will ever do the same dance the exact same way... But our class is the only dance class we don’t all aim to look or move the same; we aim to interpret that dance move in a way that works for our bodies... and we still look awesome 😎! I’m so grateful I found Rubicon; it’s led me to make amazing lifelong friends, taught me to dance for the love of it, and given me a sense of confidence and control back in my body. They’re a truly amazing school that I reckon for anybody, but especially disabled dancers. Thanks for all being so amazing today guys! #danceclass #disabilitydance #whybemoodywhenyoucanshakeyourbooty #dancingismagic #inclusivedance https://www.instagram.com/p/CLKuFq2jdkO/?igshid=12wv41pe47wou
