So itās one week until my 28th birthday š„³!! As you may have noticed (or may not š) every year on my birthday for the last 6 years, Iāve run a fundraiser for @cityhospice which is the hospice that looks after me, and provides support to my loved ones. I also encourage people around the world to donate to their local hospice. Iāve always thought itās a lovely way to celebrate another year of life for me, to use my advocacy as a way to spread some kindness to vital services and the people who need them. But this year Iām going to be a little bit selfish; this year, if you are one of the amazing people who usually donates to a hospice in my name, please consider donating to our wedding fund instead. It doesnāt need to be masses of money to make a difference; even a fiver will help! I donāt talk about finances often, but my family are not well off, and we never will be. Most of us are too unwell to work, and even when my parents worked (my mum was actually medically retired five times and kept going back to work until she couldnāt, and dad still works full time with rheumatoid arthritis on chemo) they chose to work less hours for less money to spend time with me; time we werenāt sure weād get more of. My fiancĆ© works two jobs, but heās also now a full time carer (something heās had to get used to), and obviously our romance has been something of a whirlwind⦠not a lot of time to save š Our wedding is mostly being funded by kindness and love; not just money, but skills and donations from other weddings etc. And for that kindness, Iām beyond grateful. I never thought Iād live long enough to fall in love and get married; I wouldnāt even let myself dream about it. But by some miracle, itās happening. And Iām beyond touched by everyone whoās helped us get here ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø My plan to continue fundraising for city hospice is to do something big next year after the wedding (currently itās top secret!), so theyāve not been forgotten! And to everyone whoās donated so far; thank you š»š»š»ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø The link for our just giving page and my Amazon wishlist (which is pretty much wedding centred šš») can be found on my profile page on my Linktree š» #birthdayfundraiser https://www.instagram.com/p/Ckd110TtdPd/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
All these complex reading order flow charts for where to start Discworld .Donāt people know the best way to star Discworld is to randomly purchase aĀ deeply discounted copy of a random book in the middle of the series somewhere, love it and only then discover youāve gotten yourself into a 41 book series?
When I was 19 or 20, I sewed myself a wool dress for medieval re-enactments. I hated it almost as soon as I put it on. The bodice was cut wrong; the lacing was uneven; the colour was garish; the front closure was historically inaccurate; the embellishments were sewn on with terrible thread. Wearing it, I was constantly aware of its myriad flaws.
Then in my twenties I hit my adult metabolism and didnāt fit into any of my old clothes anymore. I gave my old dresses to my foster mother, who sells costumes for a living, and the green dress sold. It entered the local medieval re-enactment secondhand economy.
Every time I go to an event, someone different is wearing my green dress. It draws my eyes because itās a lovely colour and the fabricāreal wool and enough of itāmoves beautifully with the wearerās body. I never recognize it at first, because every wearer has worn it a different way; it can be mixed and matched, dressed up and down, moved around a good century of history. From ten feet away its lacing looks elegant, its embellishments beautiful gracenotes. I think: Oh my god, that dress looks beautiful. Wait a minute, thatās MY DRESS.
That dress teaches me, every time I see it, to stop looking at myself through such critical eyes. That dress doesnāt just look good, it looks better than most other dresses in its category, because I put in the time and the effort (including using pliers to force a needle through six layers of wool) to make sure it was done right.
Itās my reminder that sometimes the things I do are actually good, and if I indulge my natural tendency to criticize myself in everything, Iāll end up missing when Iām actually awesome.
wish there was a non rude way to be like āI understand your criticism, I donāt even necessarily disagree with it, but I am doing these things on purpose, because I like them and I want to, and therefore your opinion has no value, because you might think me painting a room entirely pink is tacky, but I did it on purposeā

Hi! Iām a newbie Dramione lover, and I fell deeply in love with Manacled. I was wondering if there are any stories similar? Preferably with the criteria:
-Dark-ish fic (serious circumstances like Voldemort winning)
- Slow burn romance (but not necessarily slow burn smut)
- Dark-ish Draco (dark without being abusive to Hermione. I can deal with Manacled because those were extenuating circumstances. But yeah definitely no Dark PWP fics or Hermione/Lucius/Voldemort pairings *shudders*
- Possessive Draco (because we all secretly love that)
- No Stockholm Syndrome plz. Some fics try and rationalise Dracoās dark behaviour instead of making him work for Hermiones love, and itās annoying to invest my time into a 400K word fic just for the author to defend their triggering story. I donāt mind dubious consent, if only for the drama, as long as Hermione doesnāt forgive him straight away.
Obviously not asking for all criteria to be met haha. Just interested in these points simply because dark-ish fics are more entertaining and, and more enjoyable when Draco Malfoy is canon-complaint instead of being āsecretly in love with Hermione for years for no reason whatsoeverā.
Dragon in the Dark By: GracefulLioness - M, 31 chapters, Words: 172,205 - The battle is won, Voldemort is dead, but the war is far from over. In the new Death Eater regime, Draco Malfoy does what he must to survive and keep his mother safe. Now a highly trained assassin, Draco has learned to think of his targets as inhuman beings, but when he is tasked with killing someone from his past, he can no longer hide from the horrors of the world around him.
Title: Not Quite Dark Magic Author: hiccupfound Rating: M Genre(s): Angst, Romance Chapters: 30 Word Count: 107,154 Summary: Five years into to the war, the Order is pulling ahead after ages of drastically losing. Draco Malfoy notices. He wants in. He offers himself as a double agent, but the Order requests more. Theyāve created a new spell that binds two peopleās magical cores together in order to make a nearly unbeatable pair of duelists.Draco agrees to bind himself to the person most compatible with his magical core. Even if it is Hermione Granger.
Entanglement by blankfish - M, WIP - āYour loyalties begin and end with me now, Granger, or have you forgotten?ā he spat bitterly. At the request of the Order, Hermione Granger marries Draco Malfoy, a man sheād only ever known as her enemy. This decision leads her on a winding path of tumultuous consequences that even she could not have predicted. Dramione War AU.
Turncoat By: elizaye Switching sides. - M, 101 chapters - āI have only one condition, and I trust it wonāt be hard for you to meet. I want Granger.ā Rated M for sex/language/torture.
Blade Of War - jlkihhhg - M, 18 chapters - She merely sulks in the pure fact that she has failed. The dark lord still stands after war and Hermione Granger has seen far too much for her own good. She repulses at the fact that she once sat in the same room with one of his workers, yet she isnāt that surprised. They both had stood on the same battlefield. (Dramione post war)
DraconianĀ by hepburnettes - 50 Chapters -Ā Draco Malfoy is Voldemortās head Death-Eater, and Hermione Granger holds the key to his redemption. Together, they have to find a way to end the war in a world governed by draconian laws.
Title: Crimson with a Silver Lining Author: Lady Cailan Rating: M Summary: It is six years since the fall of the Ministry to Voldemort. Those other than purebloods are deemed less than human. When Ginnyās daughter ends up in grave danger, Hermione sells herself to the Death Eaters to save her life. Draco/Hermione. Not fluffy.
The Tower WindowĀ By: XoDramaQueenoX - M, 30 chapters - We all know the story. Harry Potter vanquishes the Dark Lord and the battle of Hogwarts is won. But the untold wrinkle is this: The Death Eaters didnāt quit and the war continued. After untold losses the Order of the Phoenix is almost gone. To save the wizarding world, Hermione takes it on herself to invoke a dangerous mission. She gives herself, as prisoner, to Draco Malfoy.

3 years ago today my documentary The Incurable Optimist was released⦠except it was never really just mine. It was mine, and it was Mei and Gwenās, the people who filmed and directed and produced everything, and who poured their heart and soul into telling my story. And it was my peopleās story; my family, friends, nurses and carers, the people woven into the every day fabric of my life (including my ex boyfriend). 3 year later, 2 BAFTA nominations, 1 unexpected BAFTA win, a break up, several surgeries and big health crises, a global pandemic, huge life changes weād never see coming, including me moving home with mum and dad, and a Tiktok account with over 33,000 followers later, and Iām still beyond grateful for Mei and Gwen helping me share my story with the world. All Iāve ever wanted to do by raising awareness about what life as a palliative care young adult is like is help one person; I am trying to be the person a younger me so badly needed to see. Someone who battles serious health problems, but who is living a happy and fulfilling life. And from the thousands of messages Iāve received, I think we achieved that! My documentary also led to me having the confidence to create my tiktok account and share my story and experiences on a day to day basis, something Iāve found brings me genuine joy. I knew Mei and Gwen were the right people all along, but I knew for sure when we had a discussion about how I didnāt want to be āinspiration pornā and Gwen told me āwe donāt think youāre inspiring because youāre ill, we think youāre inspiring because of who you areā. Thatās what stories about disabled people should be. Thank you to everyone who was a part of this adventure, but especially to my partners in crime who started it all. I miss our early morning Costas and lovingly bullying Mei! #3yearslater #theincurableoptimist #sharingmystory #grateful #thatpalliativecarelife #palliativecarewarrior #hospice https://www.instagram.com/p/CaXA5bRNjb4/?utm_medium=tumblr

yknow axolotls? thise funky little guys? well not only can they fully regenerate most parts of their body (and up to half of their brain) but they are really receptive to limb transplants and DNA modification :) because of that there are axolotls called āfirefly axolotlsā that only two breeders in the world produce that get their tails swapped with other axolotls before they hatch. there are also GFP axolotls that glow under UV light because of genetic modification that they took so well the trait actually passed down in generations
(gfp axolotl and two fireflies)
back up to the part where axolotls can regrow up to half of their brain
yup! pretty much anything that doesnt immediately kill them they can regenerate, including damage to the brain, heart, and spine. im pretty sure that there has also been a study done showing that axolotls will accept the head of another axolotl as a transplant on its back and it will behave independently of the host axolotl.
also their genomes are 14 times the size of the human genome just a little fun fact
Fun fact! Saint Valentine was beheaded, and here is a photo of his supposed skull! (which is kept in a reliquary in rome because catholics are freaky that way)
I can never ever leave this website actually

Eating toast for dinner instead of cooking is better than not eating anything at all.
Using mouthwash instead of brushing your teeth is better than not taking care of your teeth at all.
Wiping yourself with a damp cloth or baby wipe instead of showering is better than not bathing at all.
Doing only one out of five assignments you need to turn in is better than not submitting anything at all.
Talking to a loved one on the phone is better than not talking to anyone at all.
Playing your favorite video game, listening to good music, or reading a book instead of "grinding" is better than not doing anything at all.
Don't beat yourself up for not being "productive enough". A little productivity is still productivity.

Peter Joseph on structural violence, from this video.
Brilliant
Spot on. Like Coretta Scott King said,Ā I must remind you that starving a child is violence. Neglecting school children is violence. Punishing a mother and her family is violence. Discrimination against a working man is violence. Ghetto housing is violence. Ignoring medical need is violence. Contempt for poverty is violence.
Contempt for poverty is violence
i can tell iām sleep deprived bc i just made myself cry about tutankhamun and i have, like, negative interest in the kid
have now made the rest of the discord cry about this little boy who had multi-coloured ducks sewn onto a tunic that he loved so much he wore it to a Very Important Event because he was EIGHT and have you SEEN my DUCKS
sorry no iām not done iām gonna make you all cry some more iām bringing you down with me
there was once a little boy.
he is born disabled. his body hurts, and he canāt walk properly the way the other children do. he doesnāt understand why. heās a little boy. but he plays with wooden boats and pulls toys on a string.
somebody makes him a tunic. they sew ducks onto it in red and green and yellow and blue. the bright colours of a child.
the little boy is eight years old, and heās going to be king now. thereās a big ceremony about it. he doesnāt really fully understand whatās going on, because heās eight, but he wears the tunic with the brightly coloured ducks for the occasion because he loves it. look at his ducks! arenāt they great?
he is a child. the adults around him manipulate and coax him to gain more power for themselves. he still plays with toys.
as a teenager, not yet an adult, he fathers children. they do not survive. heās not even old enough to have full agency in his job and is still being manipulated, but he had babies and they died.
he does not make it to his twenties. at eighteen or nineteen years old he dies, and is buried. his babies, so tiny, are buried with him.
and so is his tunic with the little ducks that he loved so much he kept it long after it no longer fit.
there was once a little boy.
yeah i think that like. especially with historical figures in your mind people who were kings and queens or important nobles were adults. even if you know how old they were it doesnāt really click. it doesnāt seem real
but then you get something like a little tunic with brightly coloured ducks on it and it hits you like a fucking truck that this really was a little kid and no matter how far removed you are a little kid is still a little kid. their brains didnāt develop any quicker back then. he was just as developed/mature mentally as any 8 year old now. he had cartoonish animals on his clothes and he played with toy boats and probably terrorised the local cat population.
tutankhamun was a child and he didnāt make it to adulthood because he was unfortunate enough to be a very important child
his dad died when he was 8. he saw his own babies die when he was still just a boy himself.
but he had brightly coloured little ducks on his favourite shirt, and he kept it.
and he did not just keep the duckie shirt either
tutankhamun had a little pair of sandals with ducks on them. he had earrings decorated with ducks. he kept those, and other items of childhood clothing. some toys. keepsakes. things he loved, and treasured. he kept them all in a little wooden chest. the chest⦠was carved with ducks.
and that little duck chest, filled with things he kept from his childhood, was buried with him. maybe he was keeping them for the little babies who did not make it. maybe they just reminded him of good days and fun times.
but he was a little boy who thought ducks were just the best
WITH PLEASURE
(greyscale makes it hard but the duck head is on the right above the toe strap. always takes me a while to find it too)
