Film productions and disaster researchers really should team up more, honestly.
Oh, you're filming a plane crash and you've set up a great, realistic set and hired a bunch of stunt people who know how to navigate that sort of environment safely? Awesome, when you're done, can we chuck a bunch of civilians in there with the stunt guys to see what happens so we can study it to make real planes safer?
It just. It'd work so WELL. Film productions know how to safely set up super realistic seeming scenarios (usually on a tight budget too). Disaster researchers could help them make it even more realistic and accurate. The stunt people wouldn't be part of the study itself, just actors to simulate injured people and help run things from the inside.
