Satinalia gift [Orsino/Ryleigh]
Ellie had always had a penchant for leather jackets. Ever since he had known her, she had worn one and continually as she upgraded her attire, so to came the jacket. This year, it was his turn. They were far beyond trying to surprise each other with gifts; it was far easier to ask what the other wanted and just go out and get it or even give them the money to do so their self; as up until recently, he was stuck in the Gallows. However, this time he meant to go out and pick one up himself.
He went to the finest leather place he could find, a store in lowtown, surprisingly. The Hightown market just seemed to have weird leather attire and the jackets just didn’t seem to look or feel right. The lowtown one seemed to be mostly Antivan leathers, which as far as he could tell, was exactly the texture she tended to get. He’d seen many of her jackets, so the smell seemed about right as well. Going for authenticity, he chose brown leather instead of a dyed black one, and purchased it returning to the Gallows for the meeting he would have with her that evening.
The next step was something he had never done for her before. He took a few hours going over the designs and the steps for enchanting the jacket. The rune work was something he had done on several occasions, but never for his daughter. So, he carefully wove every stitch of the jacket with the spell until a blue tinge surrounded it in its entirety.
Several of the runes were simple and easy; they warded the elements and the basic force magics. Anything more, he would likely be present with her to shield her from the dangers. Call him overprotective, but he thought she needed the extra spell warding. The next step was a bit tricky. It involved reinforcing the fibers to resist penetration from foreign material, very much akin to having a second bullet proof vest on should she be wearing her jacket as well. Finally, he added a stamina rune something that in her line of work, she would always need; endurance and the power to outlast her quarry.
When she entered his office with a small bag of her own containing his favorite toffee, a few bakery treats, and packages of a Tevinter tea that he enjoyed, he grinned widely and spoke his normal routine of thanks, but this one he accentuated with a brisk hug. It had been a hard year for them, and he knew how much she treasured holidays. For a moment, all was right in their worlds. But, as every moment ended, this one did too.
“I took the liberty of upgrading your new jacket. It’s resistant to the elements, bullets and other projectiles, and has an added endurance and stamina rune. In theory, if you need more protection than that, you’ll have me with you or some other magi.” He chuckled lightly. “Just don’t lose it, and keep it on. It will keep you safe. After all our close calls this year, let’s save each other a little worry, shall we?” The grin that spread across his features was genuine, and to her, that spoke volumes.
“So, where are we going for dinner? Meredith gave me leave to be with you this evening. It is a special holiday treat for me from her.” His eyes were grinning and his lips smug. He didn’t even have to ask for this one; it was given to him.
