my #9 Track of the Year for 2023 is...
"Laserbeam (Good Times Ahead Remix)" by Ray Volpe!
this was one of the toughest debates of my list this year. which "Laserbeam" remix was the candidate?? only one could make it!! for most of the year, i had eliminate's genre-defying hybrid track in the spot. but it wasn't the only mind-blowing remix on this NINE TRACK EP. there was also the incredibly energetic 4B jersey terror flip; egzod's restructuring of the original into melodic dubstep; the AEON:MODE DnB stomper.
but this one won out above all others. getting to play the version by the artist formerly known as GTA at ohayocon basically a week after it came out set the tone for the entire year for me. then it became an anthem of festival season, and then it made my spotify top 100 -- the only Laserbeam remix to do so.
jungle terror will never die. it seems like we get one huge track from this subgenre every year. this EP earned Ray Volpe an Artist of the Year nomination for me not long after the new year's decorations were cleaned up. this track represents the cream of a very fertile crop of bangers. BRING OUT THE LASERS.
