He is salted margarine left deep in the back of the fridge, hardened against the world, but after so many years the cracks have finally chipped away, to reveal a smile long since buried.

Tired brown eyes lost in a sea of blue. The body of a high-school footballer with the slump of a retired cop, his smile hiding a century of pain. Despite this, he wears his armour proud, spotless and gleaming, his spear gripped in Arthurian stance. Every time his armour shifts, he stands a little straighter, stronger, as if remembering who he was.
"Mornin', welcome to Toad Town! Mah name's Mr. MacGregor, if you need sumthin' just holler, ahll do whut ah can to help."

Here's the first of what I hope is a collection of illustrations trying to recreate the Disco Elysium portrait style.
I think it could use with a few more brush strokes, but hey that's what experimentation is for.

A pair of baby-blue eyes sparkle above a yellow beak, like a fawn seeing snow for the first time. The softest turtle face looks as warm as butter in the spring, his cheeks rosy summer apples and his shell shaped like a friend. Yet despite his patient smile of a teacher, there is always that small tweak of concern and mischief that all koopas share.
"James, come on, don't tease them. Sorry about my husband, I'm Koopin, welcome to Toad Town! If you've any questions about the place, just let me know."

Amongst all of your senses, your hands and your eyes have always had a special relationship. One points, the other reaches, whether it was for your mother's hand, the ball into the net, or the gun to someone's face.
Your hands and eyes will ride or die together, until the last thing you see, is another gun staring back.
