‘Discrete infinity’ refers to the property by which language constructs from a few dozen discrete elements an infinite variety of expressions of thought, imagination and feeling. For example, in English, sentences are built up of discrete units, words- you can have a sentence with 5 words, or with 6 words, but not with 5.5 words. And yet from these discrete units, one can create sentences of infinite length; there is no longest sentence. It is a property unique to human language.
