Tokyo Ghoul:Re Has Lost It's Mind and I Love it
No, this isn't a rant post about the series as it's still in the early stages and I'm loving all the build up to what will probably be a pretty explosive payoff, but as of chapter 13 I feel like I should say it
This series has became like Final Fantasy 7. Want Proof? You got crossdressing infiltration going on (and Haise makes for a fairly convincing girl!), you got an identity crises going on with the main character, you got multiple people either outright lying to him about who or what he is or they are kept out of the loop, you got yandere ikemen boyfriends- Wait that's been in TG since the word go so nevermind on that one, BUT on top of that, you have a group of characters who have no idea what the fuck is going on and I imagine as things continue to dreg up memories in Haise (and maybe explore some baggage the other characters have. Juuzou is probably gonna be next in line for that cause....well you know).
And all of this is happening and it doesn't feel like a mess or a trainwreck waiting to happen. But there is a certain bit of hilarious crack going on with this series that I feel is like a calm before the storm, but is still appreciated given the turn of events that lead to the end of the first series, and it has an overall fun, surprisingly postive (for the most part) attitude about things (well, as positive as you can get with Tokyo Ghoul), and well, when you feel just as conflicted as the main character in terms of "do I really want to remember my past? Does that mean the current "me" will disappear?", then the author is doing a damn good job of making you care. And doing it by using a nice helpful dose of crack and fun makes it all go down easier, hence the FF7 feeling, not to mention some of the colorful/hilarious new characters (Kanae Von Rosewald must be protected at all costs). And I haven't been this pumped for a weekly manga in a long time......well, for anything besides One Piece and Magi anyway.
