Disney ¡Viva Navidad! and Disney Festival of Holidays is one of my favorite memories from 2019. Not because it’s Christmas but because my culture is being represented and celebrated and at one of my favorite places, @disneyland I wish there was something year round but this’ll do for now. The music, the food, and the street party makes my heart so happy! I’m also glad they celebrate through the 12 days of Christmas/Three Kings Day. Disney ¡Viva Navidad! Street Party is the best parade hands down! But to top it off Feliz Navidad is a song written and sung by Puerto Rican artist Jose Feliciano. 🇵🇷 This past visit I was eating and listening to Mariachi Divas perform and they had little kids come and join them. They were singing Feliz Navidad and the kids were singing along and then it was just the kids and they continued singing the Spanish parts too. It seriously made me want to cry happy tears. You might be wondering “why?” And it’s because my parents were raised during a time where it was looked down on and they were punished at school for speaking Spanish. Because of that to save my siblings and I from embarrassment/etc my parents did not teach us Spanish. I understand where they’re coming from but it sucks that I don’t know much of my own language. But seeing these little kids speaking and singing and everyone honestly impressed with them helped me see how much times have changed for the better even with a lot of the bad. This just proves how much representation matters.
