Disorientation Guide
Disorientation Guide
Our blog will be serving as a resource and domain for publishing student opinions on what our colleges are really like, dispelling myths and advising incoming students. These will be compiled for each campus around our Campus Disorientation Guide.
Disorientation is a process that counters the indoctrination, called "Orientation", in which the University requires its students to partake. At Orientation, students learn what behavior is appropriate--that is, what is appropriate on behalf of the institution. We are sold lies and myths about the exceptionalism of the University and its students, while we pay that very institution thousands of dollars. While many of us are continually marginalized by an oppressive culture and administration.
Disorientation produces alternative narrative about the institution by calling its practices into question, exposing the lies and myths for what they are, and appropriating the University's propaganda as to build a strong consciousness about the how unsafe marginalized populations feel on campus. Disorientation guides are a good way for us to make our voices heard through a variety of creative means and invites people to contribute to a campus-wide discourse that simultaneously critiques the University's dominance and envisions what a more equitable university would look like.
