Robert craves stability over all else, something that will last, even with his turbulent life and all the baggage he brings with him. He doesn't want to die in that damn suit, doesn't want to only be known as Mecha Man. He wants to be someone people care about for who he is, not who he's supposed to be. Not the mech pilot his father all but forced him to become when he was too young to know better.
He wants to be Robert, he wants to be loved, valued, cherished, wanted, as Robert. As himself.
And he wants to share that future—something he never even thought he'd live long enough to have—with those who he has come to care about. Sonar and Riven, first and foremost. He used to catch himself thinking about Flambae and Waterboy from time to time in a similar sense, and he still wants to keep them in his life. Same with the rest of the Z-team, though those feelings are far less complicated.
Some small, selfish, part of him wants a child of his own to prove that not all Robertsons are horrible fathers, while a louder part of him is utterly terrified of becoming everything he fears. A tiny little person with Riven's eyes, and Sonar's fangs, and his freckles. Someone that can grow up loved and wanted without obligation or a crushing legacy. But that's not something he needs to worry about right now. Nor that he'll ever admit to considering aloud.
At the end of the day, Robert wants a future where he gets to live, not just survive. And he wants his loved ones with him.
