LOREDUMP ABOUT ALL THE DEITIES HEHEHEHEHE (please) 🥺
I WILL!! JOYOUS!
In the first instant after the Echoes formed, there were uncountable billions of them in existence. Moments later, fewer than a thousand remained -- the rest were simply unable to sustain their own existence, or were absorbed into another.
Causality is the main reason (other than infighting) why there are only 27 still alive in the present day
of those 27, only nine are known to be extant beyond doubt. Two more are dead but were fractured upon death, meaning that while their shards are living they can't technically be counted dead. The rules are weird.
ONE is the oldest Echo, chronologically. They don't have a lot to do with the doings of mortals nor those of other Echoes. Not a lot to say about them.
Mask, who was fractured into the Shards Thereof. The oldest Echo in terms of real-world creation date. Fun fact -- it wasn't originally an Echo, but was one of Glass's siblings in the first sketches!
Moon, Mask's twin, fled from the Eldhollow during the battle between Mask and Causality (which destroyed the Eldhollow in the process); they sheltered in a plain on a small and insignificant Hollow far away, the chill from their body slowly turning the plain into an icy tundra around them
Small tangent, but this is where Yzkiel and Milo live! The city of Lune stands about fifty km (they obviously don't use the metric system -- but for reference's sake) from where Moon hibernates.
Moon is the only known Echo currently dwelling in a Hollow. Most Echoes reside in the Deep Weave, while a few hang around closer to Hollows, but no others actually spend the majority of their time within a Hollow's boundaries. It limits their power, and that's quite annoying.
Charlie is not technically an Echo, but for all intents and purposes she might as well be one; their Being is similar enough to true Echoes, anyway.
Dissolution and Veracity are the youngest living Echoes, chronologically, and are twin sisters. They're actually fairly new creations so I'm not sure what I want to do with them yet, but I do like them quite a lot. Veracity is a little shit
G'maer is the Echo associated with curiosity. I changed the lore a while ago -- Echoes aren't really tied to one trait anymore -- but G'maer still definitely fits the bill. unethical experiments guy
He's the reason Yzkiel's life went to shit! turns out that mortals don't much like it when you kidnap them, inject them with Echo blood, and put them back in a completely different Hollow with no discernible way home
I like listing off names so here's a list of all extant Echoes, in chronological order:
ONE, Mask (fractured), Moon, Jurisdiction, Sheath (fractured), the Web, Ichor, G'maer, Avarice, Dissolution, & Veracity
