Jade’s distance model
One of the reasons the visual quality of SU has seemed to get better since the first season is the use of the distance models. The distance models aren’t bad, they’re just less detailed. But over time, it seems that they are being used less often, only when a character is truly tiny.
Compare “Ocean Gem”:
With “Barn Mates”:
Even though the characters are taking up less space in the latter shot, they have the full models. You can tell from the faces (especially the eyes) and the stars on clothing.
This tends to give a better, cleaner, appearance, and I’m all for it.
A tourmaline distance model for your consideration
Gemsona Challenge Day 8: Distance Model: Draw your gemsona’s distance model! Before this, I didn't knew what is a distance model, but I found the answer in this page: stevencrewniverse.tumblr.com/p… is a Drawing about your gem in the distance, for animation, for this, the drawing would be more simply and easy to coloring
Day 8, 9, & 10: Distance Model/Cracked Gem/Change of Heart
I might have taken a bit of time off between these posts, say a week or two, but you know, life sucks. I’ll just do these three to make up for lost time and call it good.
~Day 8~
Yeah, I can’t actually draw things, and I don’t know anyone who’d do it for free that also has the time. So, screw it, no distance model I guess.
~Day 9~
Onyx is heavily affected by a cracked gem, not physically, but instead mentally. He loses all memory prior to cracking his gem and finds himself unable to summon his weapon. His personality also takes a hit, turning from cool, precise and methodical to being uncertain of himself and generally quite passive. The longer he’s left in this state, however, his normal self tends to rise back to the surface. Despite all of these issues, he can still function rather well with a cracked gem, even going nearly four years without any physical deformities. Onyx has found himself with a cracked gem once in his life, and for him, once was enough.
~Day 10~
Seeing as he’s neither a hero or a villain, switching between the two isn’t going to happen, so his personality would most likely be extremely extroverted. The life of the party, he’d actively try to make friends, but stay with the rules laid out. No one likes a rule breaker, right? However, this friendly attitude would be a cover for a deep issue of his: a lack of connection. He doesn’t feel like he knows anyone and can’t really understand what people are feeling. It leads to him being a fantastic Gem to have some fun with, but getting to know? Not really. And if you combine this with his “follow the rules” mentality, he doesn’t really have any dreams of expectations for himself besides “do what is told.” His life the way it is has been tragic, yeah, but it could have been so much worse.
