🌞 DEVILS IN THE DETAILS 👀

☀️- Was there symbolism/motifs you worked in?

ooough there’s a lot of focus on the idea of cycles and repetition because well, duh, bullseye’s the viewpoint character. matt, elektra, and bullseye are all the same age and the core events of their life happen at about the same times and in cycles of 5. 

at 14, bullseye kills his father, elektra ends up in the psych ward (from elektra assassin #1), matt has his accident, at 19, elektra’s father dies & she ends up with the hand, matt starts becoming daredevil, bullseye becomes an assassin, at 24, the events of ditd happen

bullseye is like. a character that’s VERY obsessed with patterns and his motif is circles for a REASON, there’s no distance between anything for him, it’s all just always happening at once which is why he keeps on slipping back to thinking people are his father or matt and etc.

there’s also like. definitely some religious symbolism that’s mostly filtered through bullseye not knowing like. ANYTHING about religion bc he wasn’t raised.

ALSO the really repeated motif of elektra and bullseye as the angel and the devil on matt’s shoulder

matt, in the center, with both elektra and bullseye behind him and it’s literally impossible to tell who’s the devil and who’s the angel on his shoulder

bullseye is. ostensibly the angel bc he reacts however he thinks matt would. he’s taking cues. he’s mirroring. and elektra can get away with more bc matt’s in love with her, but she’s the voice of reason when it really comes down to it

🔬- Was there one scene you were building up to/knew you had to get just right?

 god honestly the whole relationship needed to be set up JUST RIGHT bc otherwise it’s absolutely not viable. i needed to make it clear that like. elektra was NOT dead in this universe and bullseye wasn’t outright malicious towards her, just jealous (y’know like what was originally canon) but on a more specific level...

i WAS absolutely building up to the three of them killing fisk like, all along and i knew it had to get there very naturally because like. fisk wouldn’t just let them come in and attack him without everything going to shit and there not being anyone left around to protect him

getting matt disbarred was also one of the hardcore anchor points for the fic, i knew that NEEDED to happen, i just had to figure out how and that’s where elektra getting so fed up she almost killed someone came into play. and fisk like. absolutely hired the mugger to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and to describe matt instead of bullseye

i also very specifically wanted it to end on the first snow of the season bc i thought that was NEAT
