I've seen a lot of people absolutely livid about this Alexa vs Trish match, and I've been trying to wrap my head around it. I personally started jumping up and down after reading the news, and as someone who will be first in line to get tickets on Friday, I'm so excited to see this live.

Anyway, most of the criticism of the match was towards Alexa. As someone who has been a wrestling fan since birth, but has only gotten into the online fandom in the recent months, this honestly baffles me that so many people hate Alexa. Yes, okay, she is not the best wrestler, but she is far from the worst. She is a full fledged SPORTS ENTERTAINER, and that is not just limited to skills. She is amazing on the mic and is great at playing a heel, especially since she's a really nice person as far as I know. Her job is to literally make you hater her, and judging by the amount of hate I saw towards her today, she does a damn good job.

Her character is not one that relies solely on their skill. She relies on her cunningness and backup plans to get her wins, and she's great at what she does (I am almost confident we'll see the broken arm gag against Ronda tomorrow).

Are there other women that may be more deserving? Yes, but it's not like Ember or Ruby are retiring tomorrow and will never have been champ cuz Alexa was. These women have their entire careers ahead of them. And it's not her choice if she wins or loses, anyway.

And let me just say something about the body shaming. I know for a fact that a good reason why people don't like her is because of the body shaming angle with Nia. However, Nia said she was honored to have done an angle like that, and done it in such a realistic way (x), and Alexa has said that it was hard for her to call Nia, her real life best friend, these things, but that Nia requested it (x) I get how it was disrespectful to a lot of people, but know that they both intended for the storyline to be taken so far because they wanted it to be real. The fact that it bothered you means they achieved their goal and that it made you feel something, which is the point.

The Women's Evolution is not about pushing one brand of women over a different one. Every performer is unique and talented, and they each bring something completely their own to the table. Each women is pivotal in the growth of the division, and a sneaky, underhanded style wrestler like Bliss is just as important as a technical wrestler like Becky, or a powerhouse like Nia. Even each Diva was important in their own way. I've seen people use the Women's Evolution as an excuse to put down other female wrestlers that they don't think fit with the type of performer they wanna see (like when people hate on Mandy Rose), and honestly, I'm sick of it. Female empowerment is not about tearing certain women down and celebrating others. It's about the fact that a woman can be and do all things, and that there's no right or wrong way to be a woman. In that same way, there's no right or wrong way to be a female wrestler.

And for the few people I saw hating on Trish, I have no words.

If TNA could have a Knockouts(”Diva’s”) Tag Team belt, why can’t WWE? I mean the only people going for it would be Tamina and Naomi, and possibly Sasha and Becky(Let me Dream!) but it would still be a great way to show that they care just a little more about the  Diva’s Division.

Diva’s Revolution, Women’s Wrestling, What the Hell is Vince doing - My opinions

First of all, I’d like to apologise for my punctuation and the way I am wording this; I am not the best at writing and I’m currently ill, which obviously really helps the situation. 

I’ve been seeing so much about the “Diva’s Revolution” not only from WWE slapping it across my face every Monday and “Thursday” but from the fans (sorry; WWE Universe) as well. Everyone and their dog has an opinion and I thought I’d shove mine into the mix and we can all have a good stir.

Lets start by saying that it is good that everyone is talking about the Diva’s Division; publicity is always good publicity, as people always say. The problem is that most people have realised that the “Diva’s Revolution hasn’t gone the way we hoped.

I hoped for fantastic rivalries, incredible matches, good commentary, new belts (I know I was being hella optimistic!) and all my favourites being included. 

The WWE brought up the three female wrestlers; Charlotte, Becky and Sasha from NXT and then made three stables in the Diva’s Division. 

And I get it; they needed a way of bringing all three of them up, so we now have quite a few women who can carry fantastic matches. The WWE’s Diva’s Division had all the momentum in the world but they really didn’t use it efficiently. 

They obviously wanted Nikki to overtake AJ Lee’s record (for reasons I don’t want to comment on as I do not know the ins and outs of the WWE), but in doing so they stopped the momentum in the division. I really don’t mind Nikki or Brie - they’re decent wrestlers - and though many like to say the reasons for getting where they are, are more related to they’re boobs then their moves it really isn’t my place to say.

So I think I might give you the things I don’t like:

- The commentary. I don’t know how to explain this, but having two old men panting over attractive women in skimpy outfits is not good. Having Jerry say “Oh I love this” whenever the Bella’s come out, perpetuates the already too strong idea that the whole reason to watch Diva’s wrestling is to enjoy how hot they are. Plus hearing guys talking about women who could be their daughters if not grand-daughters that way is gross. 

- The plot line. I am not a big fan of the idea that the “Divas Revolution” plot line should be the “Diva’s Revolution”. They should prove they’re making changes within the WWE by booking better matches/feuds then saying they’re in a revolution.

- Slut shaming. Paige’s “pipe-bomb” could have been good. Great even. Finally we had a storyline woohoo! But having her slut shame the Bella’s/Summer/Lana. Is not the way to do it. You can create a heel without saying they’re only where they are because of the men in their lives. If it was the other way around people would be confused. (AKA if KO said to John Cena he is only the US champ because of Nikki) Again, perpetuating ideas without a consequence makes it ok for the fans to say these things (and they already are).

- Total Divas. The problem I have with the show, (because I do watch and enjoy learning the behind the scenes of wrestling), is the way we get such an inclose and personal view of these wrestlers, we feel closer to them and therefore are more likely to treat them differently because of it. So we have Dean Ambrose, I know nothing about his real life apart from his name and that he’s dating Renee, and that I think is great. It means I treat him as a character, he’s far enough away that I don’t feel the need to bring his personal life into the equation and can judge him purely on his wrestling/storylines. The problem with Total Diva’s is that people can now feel they can treat the wrestlers like the actors behind them, and vice versa. They can bring “real life storylines” into the WWE ring. Plus, we are less likely to see them as wrestlers and more likely to see them as models/reality stars etc.

- “Divas”. I hate the name. It sounds like a squealing singer who broke a nail, not someone who’s broken bones, gives blood, sweat and tears for their tough job. It makes us focus on the way they look like, rather than the way they wrestle.

- The make-up/hair situation. I am not a big fan of seeing athletes wrestling with they’re hair down/full faces of make-up.  I guess they are wrestling personalities and the guys often have their hair down too. But a bit more diversity would be great. Think Ronda Roussey and the other female UFC fighters.

- The belt. There is only one belt, between 10 female wrestlers. It doesn’t make sense and I think there should be two. Maybe a Women’s Champion and a Tag Team Champion. And PLEASE no-one likes the butterfly belt style. Have one feud going for the Women’s Championship Belt (Charlotte V Sasha) , and one feud based on hatred/betrayal (like Becky Lynch V Paige or Natalya V Paige) and one for the Tag Team belts (Naomi & Tamina V Bella Twins). If there is only two matches on raw (which is gross in my opinion but hey I’m not the one in charge!)  have different feuds on raw and then another on Smackdown/Main event. Having different writers/bookers on each storyline/feud so people don’t confuse the two. 

Those are my main issues. But there are of course, little bits after each raw/smackdown that I complain about. It’s a shame that the Diva’s Revolution feels exactly the same as it did before three of the four horsewoman came up but now with a cool slogan to go with it.

Triple H says its no way near where he wants the division to be, but please can someone get hold of a WWE writer and explain to them how to write women?!

The main thing I hope for with tonights Diva’s match is for WWE to give them a nice long match. Give these two women the opportunity to have a phenomenal match. There is a lot riding on this match, not just for the women, but for the WWE as well. At the next NXT TakeOver, the women are getting the main event match in a 30 min Iron Woman match. Believe it or not, the main roster creative team and booking have to compete with that, and right now they look very weak compared to NXT’s creative team and booking. They started this whole Diva’s Revolution and haven’t done much with it besides give us the same matches and show their favoritism for a certain team. This is chance for WWE to show that they have faith in their women wrestlers. That they actually mean it when they say that they want a change for their Divas Division.

Whether it’s a main event match or not, Charlotte and Nikki Bella need to have a long and well fought match. No interferences (in fact, both teams should be banned from ring side). A match with close calls, a match that has the crowd chanting ‘This is Awesome’, a match that has the audience live and at home on the edge of their seats. Let this be a clean win no matter who wins it. Let this be a match that people are going to talk about for a long long time. Let these two women show the WWE Universe that ‘yes, we can do this. we can wow you. we can put on fantastic matches. we can do this’. 

Let the WWE Diva’s show the world what they can do, because I can guarantee that they’ll blow us all away.
