The eve young as they chat away, finished with their obligations for the day and finding pleasure in each other’s company until their scheduled hours are up. Conversations of interests and pasts alike already beyond, he listens to disheartening news from Hyejung. Extending his empathy and hand, he attempts to cheer her up with some wisdom. “You deserve better, you know that,” waggling his finger in a scolding manner before sitting up to better continue the act. However, the mask breaks quick as he laughs it off, hoping some of his cheeriness rubs off on her. Feeling the discontent harsh their air, he clears his throat and stares at her for a moment, allowing his presence to sink in, like a father to his child, like a partner to their spouse, and like a friend to their kin. His right hovers over her chest, giving it a gentle prod as if to indicate within, “Light like this does not exist, but we wish it did. We wish the sun could make us young and beautiful. Most of all, we wish that everyone we knew could be brightened simply by our looking at them.” Raising his brows half-jokingly before dawning a proud smile, he adds, “You have that light. Do not let anyone put it out. And, of course, shine bright, not for me, but for you.”

Loud & Deafening Silence [ Accepting! ]

Comfort my muse as they cry

Strewn across, knees atop black pavement as a dirtied embrace befalls the body before him before hitting the street floor. The scent of burning oil and searing concrete fill the air as exasperated gasps and frantic whispers exchange between bystanders. “Please! Call them now!” An acute Yoo points in desperation as he instructs a few onlookers with their phones out to reach out to emergency services. Hurriedly, he inverts his blazer, pressing it below the unconscious man’s head and neck for support. For half a second, he watches, seeing no rise in this man’s chest, and so, he presses his ear upon him, hearing no beat nor suction. A stream of blood runs down the other’s temple as he adjusts his jaw to prep. “Huph, huph.” Involuntary sighs of air as he pumps the man’s torso a few times before pinching his nose and giving him a much needed breath of life. Again. Again. Then, again. A few cycles continue as the sirens near. Two fingers feel for a pulse, but alas, no vital. Again. Again. Then, a familiar first responder joins him, relieving him and giving him a chance to catch himself as sweat pores. Once more. Again. Again. More come to overtake the duty as they put the man on a stretcher and resuscitator. A hard pat on his shoulder acknowledges his work at they stream back onto the vehicle, Yoo waving away a fellow coworker, though of different sections.

To his shock, the feeling of righteousness overwhelms him as he pats off his dress pants and folded jacket. Wobbly on his feet, he hobbles over to Bina amidst the now-clearing multi-car accident. Staying strong himself, he asks her, “Are you all right?”

A few hours later...

Tears rush down his face as he slams the underside of his fist upon the table. A click of his landline, as he hears the final set of words from the EMT. Pronounced dead... To him, tragedy has stricken, and all he can do his blame himself for not being better. Hands cup his face as he feels the burden of failing another soul, blinding himself to his upheld effort. That is, until her presence reassures him as the silence of the night turns from abrupt trouble to soothing comfort.

The movement sudden takes him by surprise as he falters atop the royal war table, at her majesty’s volition no less. “Pr-princess, what ar—,” he recovers quickly at her play, back onto both feet with eyes brazen and wide. A clear of the air comes out of him as a cough, realizing her intention in the middle of the night. Realizing that the danger amiss had been a ploy, he switches his gaze from the outside, closing the window in the process before closing the distance between. Has it been an eternity already?

Regardless of the time frame, he longs for her too, kissing the top of her forehead and cupping her cheek. “You need not to call me in false pretenses, Mika,” dropping honorifics for endearment. He eliminates her worry and discontent with a kiss on the lips, seeing her not of royalty, but her partner. Raising her and seating her on said table he befell upon moments ago, he caresses her nervous thigh and pecks it in gentle manner, taking in each one as if it might be his last.

As the scene ends and credits roll from the medical drama, his companion breaks the silence in the air. Hearty laughter exudes him, as he adjusts their blanket for better warmth. “Oh, you are serious?” Speaking with a mouth full of cashews, he swallows and clears his throat to elaborate a story, scooching a bit closer and propping his elbow atop the magnificent, white couch for support.

“I suppose something similar has happened.” More chuckles bubble out of him, sharing a half-embarrassing incident in the line of volunteer work. “I had to move a patient from a stretcher to her bed, of course, with the help of other aides. She had been unconscious up to this point, so her recovering and waking up was to be expected.” Picking off a nutty crumb off his lap, he chews and talks, “Setting up a line, I was suddenly grabbed by her from the neck. Apparently, she was overjoyed with us saving her and I had received the most premium treatment of her gratitude...,” omitting the fact that he was held under for two solid minutes on her chest as other nurses tried to pry him off. He adds a little snippet, “Hehe, my coworkers joke, yes, calling me ‘Lover boy’ or ‘Mr. Big Hero’ but, really, it is not as exaggerated as TV makes it out to be, Lin.”

A coyly cough escapes him at the inquiry, as hands embed themselves on her shoulders, finding the knots in fine, deep tissue. Sitting behind her with lips pursed with concentration, he squeezes her triceps and eases off to answer the ludicrous question, “Lin, this question...” His hand runs through his forehead to his nape, clutching it for a moment as he gathers a safe way to answer such an artistic trap.

“Is it enough to say that I think of you often enough?” Swaying his head to the side to try and pry a peek from her expression, he finds that such a reply is unsatisfactory and so, he removes the distance between by wrapping himself around her belly, nestling his chin on the nook of her left shoulder. A breath into her ear, as he regains the upper hand, confiding in her to boost such delicate ego, “All the time, dear. All. The. Time.”
