❗️PSA❗️We are restocked on our first issue of Cyclista Zine. “Our Bikes, Our Stories” is a submission based social justice compilation of perspectives of BIPOC and FTW folks of what it means to create “space” in cycling through community, virtual spaces, media, bikepacking, wrenching, outdoor advocacy and more. . For those who are new to our page, Cyclista Zine is a space were we aim to shred the patriarchy. A media zine focused on sharing knowledge and the stories of BIPOC and FTW folx in cycling. . The stories we tell matter. The lack of BIPOC and FTW representation in cycling reveals their marginalization and exclusion in society as whole, especially in cycling advocacy, media, and sport. And it speaks to a bigger historical and cultural issues of how marginalized groups are continually ignored, pushed out, and misrepresented. We cannot shy away from telling our stories in cycling just because it doesn’t suit the mainstream narrative the cycling media, sport and industry sells. Instead, we have to replace it. . To ignore our struggles, histories, and stories in this activity does a huge disservice to the many who fight to take space in the lane and the sport they love. We cannot ignore the voices who held onto spaces and races by the skin of their teeth and faced substandard treatment and closed doors because of their gender, sexuality, and color. Without these voices, we would not be able to create space for an incredible diverse culture of cycling. . Creating safe spaces and supportive environments where BIPOC and FTW folx can speak out and speak up, has the potential to translate to make things better on performance, participation, and representation. . We want to be that support and community that centers their voices.
