Yep. This is my real name. I’m posting these screenshots from a Facebook post connected to my other fandom “The Last Ship”.
I honestly don’t understand the bias against fanfiction and the animosity against its writers. It makes no sense to me to insult a group of people who are so utterly devoted to a quality show that they would spend hours imagining, writing, editing, and bravely sharing their ideas.
I freely admit who I am to the world. I’m pretty much the opposite of many of you–I’m politically conservative, pro-life, Mormon, not-technologically-literate, crafty, gun-toting, happily married (20 years!), mom-of-six, bilingual, and somewhat athletic.
But I also celebrate that other people are different than I am. I think that those differences make life more interesting, more full, and beautiful. Just because other people don’t believe the same things that I do doesn’t mean that they are less than I am. In fact, since I believe that we are all God’s children, that makes us all siblings, and I would be the worst kind of hypocrite if I didn’t try to love all people. To throw out blatant, insulting generalizations doesn’t help this world heal from the hatred and animosity that is seething around us.
This seems like a stupid thing for me to plant my soapbox atop, but there it is. That’s where I am today–the mood that’s struck me. I feel kind of bad for calling this person out–I probably shouldn’t have said anything. It just bothers me that people have to be so mean.
Kindness, people. It matters.
