Hello! This isn’t a request, but may I ask how you make your dividers? Your dividers are super pretty, and I’d like to know how you do it.
Thank you!
Hello!! Thank you (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵) i feel happy people like these sm
this guide is centered on how i make dividers including my personal limitations and how i get around them, divided into two sections; editing for yourself and editing for others. We will show how the steps are broken down with visuals for reference as well. Pls adjust steps to ur preferences :D there are also divider bases i like after this tutorial is finished!
this will get REALLY LONG. Just a warning bc i want to go in depth!
(I use ibis paint to edit and i search on tumblr for pngs btw!! Add keywords: png/render/transparent after the png ur searching for. Tumblr isnt a search engine but there are specific blogs that make transparent images that can be searched using those keywords.)
Section 1: editing for yourself (the general steps of making divs)
the REAL step 1….
pls listen to music or whatever when making dividers or any type of gfx since it can be a pretty time consuming thing to do lol.
so obvious but have a theme to start!
no matter how small of a theme you should always have one! It can provide the basic guide for how you can shape the divider into something you like. If you are new to editing all together i advise you stick to one theme and not multiple themes that can clash together to make things simple and not get frustrated that what u made doesnt look good when ur just starting yk?
Even if you really wanted to make smth with clashing themes making a simple one to start as a base can be helpful more rather than thinking “when am i going to put x y and z into the dividers to make it look how i want it to?!”
Example: A black and purple lace divider with stars. A black and purple lace divider with stars, galaxy and cats. You can leave the galaxy and cats for after you make ur base! 🤦🏽
2. Throwing stuff at the wall and experimenting.
Its like the title says. Everything doesnt have to be 100% to your theme, adjust proportions and use filters but so long as it looks to your standard is what matters for your base :3 (this applies to this whole process too)
Here is the base after following those instructions!: (i wanted it to be a bigger divider so theres more detail crammed in but dont overwhelm yourself when making smaller sizes!!)
2.5. Have a main focus to draw attention to in your divider(s).
I left this as 2.5 and not a actual step bc this is subjective since it depends on the context, if you are making a divider around a character you should make your character stand out in a way to show that divider is themed around them/that they are important yk? But in other cases if you add too many defining details your design could become cluttered and clunky.
3. Less is more.
But what does this mean?! It means you should make more of less. Sounds like a contradiction at first but here’s how i do it:
The red circle is the main pngs i want to pop out, the blue circle is accent pngs. Also step 2.5 since the cats are living beings. The stars, paw prints and the purple galaxy circle behind the main cat all connect back to the clashing themes mentioned earlier right? So ye
Making more of less means less focus on using lots and lots of pngs (helpful for beginners) and using filters to make them pop instead. (filters i use specifically shown later)
And with that you are basically done with your divider!
additional tips:
for step 2.5/main focus, use unsharp mask on a medium setting (on ibis its in filters->blur) to make lines more prominent on ur character, helpful for when ur main focus is blurry/less quality image and it also brightens it a little.
filters i like using: drop shadow, glow (outer), stroke (both)
Finished result:
Section two: Editing for others (edit account oriented)
If you are not familiar with a theme someone requests from you, you aren’t forced to make huge flashy dividers that you make for themes you ARE familiar with. Size down the canvas and do step three, use filters to make your shit look good when you dont know what else to do after placing down some PNGs. That way you will get less frustrated and is helpful for perfectionists like me.
Remember: you do not owe anyone the absolute best besides what you can handle especially when you’re making these for free. Sounds maybe harsh but true ^^’
By the time this is posted i made a chemistry divider request, im not entirely familiar with chemistry but i did the best i can in a way i was still happy with following this advice :]
I hope all this was comprehensive enough to understand (*^ω^*) As promised here are your bases:

I am not able to provide all the PNGs in the background. These PNGs are the main ones used. The Nicole PNG is from @ hoyo-transparents here.
