It was a bright sunny day, though the wind brought a chill with it that reminded anyone who felt it that winter would be upon them within the coming weeks. Revali looked up at his father as the older Rito explained the intricacies of how to account for the wind when using a bow. After taking a moment to process the explanation, Revali drew his bow and took aim at a target across the range they were practicing at. With a little help from his father, the arrow was sent flying straight into the bullseye of the target.
“I got it!” Revali cheered and turned to see his father’s reaction only to have his grin fade when he was met with nothing but empty space. “Dad?” The wind shifted, blasting the young Rito with cold air as clouds covered the sun. “Dad? Where’d you go?” A deep growl behind him was all the warning he got before a large hand scooped Revali up, dangling him upside down in the air by his foot. Revali’s bow had dropped uselessly to the ground, and the small Rito flapped helplessly in an attempt to pull himself free. He was pulled higher in the air and held to stare down and the gigantic eye and gaping maw of a black Hinox.
“No! Let me go! NO!” Just as the fingers that gripped his foot loosened, Revali jerked awake with a gasp.
His breathing was sharp and ragged for a few moments as he willed his racing heart to slow down. Finally Revali let out a heavy sigh and rested his head in his hands. It had been so long since he had that nightmare. He thought he was past that. Thankfully none of the others nearby seemed to notice his sudden awakening.
