title once again from lucky ones by lana♡
It was a beautiful saturday afternoon in New York. End of August could be a real heat wave sometimes, but this year it was just perfect, Labour Day weekend Nate never worked and you had him all to yourself. August was actually one of your favourite moments. To you weather was to die for and back in the day you used to have so much fun with your friends. Trying to squeeze the most out of last summer days.
Two weeks ago you celebrated your birthday with Nate and closest friends in a short getaway to Aruba. And now here you were, sitting by your vanity, last finishing touches to your make up. Nate told you this morning that he's taking you on a romantic date after lunch. You were in the mood for something very New Yorkish and vintage. Your intuition telling you to get something fancy. So here you were in white dress, A-shaped Marilyn Monroe in Seven Year Itch kind of vibe.
"Car waits downstairs, love" Nate said, his head poped up by the doorframe. "Wow"
You lifted your head up, looking at him, leaning against the wall. "What?" you asked with a warm chuckle.
"You look... i'm speechless"
You smiled and shook your head, getting up from your seat. "Come on Mr. Archibald, let's see what you prepared"
You step out of the car, after Nate opened the door for you, finding yourself near your one of your favourite New York places. And a classic one. The one you and Nate had your first date in.
"Good old Central Park" you sighed with a smile. "What are we gonna do?"
"You'll see" Nate wrapped his arms around your waist " for now let's just stroll, I wanna enjoy my pretty lady"
You walked and walked, lost in each others presence, you didn't even notice when you were getting close to the lake. There was a couple boats in the distance but when you were almost at the lake you noticed one with flowers inside, cozied with bunch of pillows. It was waiting for you, you knew it as one of Nate's assistants was there keeping an eye on it.
"Nate is that our boat?" you asked even if you already knew.
"What do you think?" Nate asked, wrapping an arm around your waist. You pecked his lips telling him how beautiful it was. You wanted to get going, sliding out of Nate's embrace but he took your hand. You turned around and something at his demenor chaneged. He was still smiling but he looked slightly tense. You frowned wondering what happened, if everything was okay. But before you could ask he opened his mouth.
"Sweetheart, before we go..." he was still holding your hand, while the other one slipped to his pocket. "I need to ask you something" you couldn't even blink he was on one knee. "Would you like to step on this boat with me as my fiance?" he opened a small box, showing you the ring. The box in his right palm, the left one holding yours. You covered your mouth and you felt tears in your eyes. Warm, happy tears and army of butterflies in your belly.
"Yes, yes, yes!! I wouldn't dream of anything else" you choked out, fighting the tears from falling down your cheeks, but you failed, looking at Nate's relieved and happy face.
He got up and you threw your arms around his neck, pulling him close, catching his lips in sweet kiss. You pressed your forehead to his and laugh escaped your lips. Nate's hands left your waist and he took your hand.
"Let me" he murmured, pressing his lips on your temple "future Mrs. Archibald" he slid the ring on your left hand and you finally looked at it, not noticing the details when he actually proposed. It was made of gold and on the front, piece of the band was formed in the shape of little sun, framing the stone from the left side. It was in the stunning shade of green, cut in a pear shape.
"What's... what's the stone? It's not emerald I think, but..."
"No it's not emerald, neither is colored diamond" Nate smiled "I remember one time you told you don't want diamonds, that you don't even need stones in your ring as long as someone's love is in it" he continued and your heart fluttered at the fact that he remembered that. "I wanted to give you something, that feels entirely you. It's peridot, sweetheart. And sun, because to me you're like it. You give me life, I can't function for too long without you"
You didn't know what to say. You felt tears in your eyes again. You couldn't believe someone could make you feel like this. This happy, this carefree. Finally you stepped closer to him, taking his face in your hands.
"Then I wanna shine for you, till death do us part"
Sitting in the boat, you snuggled to Nate's chest. You shared a glass of champagne and he fed you fruits and small sandwiches, since you were worried about staining your dress.
"Could marry you wearing it, you know?" you said.
"Bad luck if the groom sees bride in her dress before the wedding" Nate chuckled "that's what they say"
"They also say that love is blind, what about that?" you raised your eyebrow.
"Maybe, they're right. I only see you, blind to anything else. But im lucky to be"
"You and me Nate, we're the lucky ones" you said softly, rubbing circles on his forearm. You smiled at him, a smile that reached your eyes. His eyes sparkled like the surface of the lake you were on. You looked on your laced hands, engagement ring on your finger. A promise of your life together. You couldn't wait.
