Heart Sign: The predominant sign of your Mayan Cross
As keepers of the fire of the hearth, persons born on this day are centered, loving, and intelligent and possess sacred knowledge. They hold much respect for the plant kingdom and gifts from the Earth. The key to their success is to recognize the esoteric gifts and Destiny as in this Cross, so that they may experience the divine love that supersedes all else and brings ultimate completion. Reed is engendered by the day Serpent and holds the destiny of the Crocodile. The combination of these energies will provide an inexhaustible power and enrich life by extraordinary experiences. The Reed person is very prone to mysticism. (www.mayancross.com)

Divinyls - I Touch Myself, 1990
Ybon: DiVinyls
“Few singers can locate the rage that lies behind lust like Christina Amphlett of Divinyls. She sings with an eroticism that is almost vengeful, hurling out phrases brimming with violent need. Then she can turn and offer succor, proving there’s vulnerability beneath that banshee wail after all ... There’s no denying the singer reaches her climax on “I Touch Myself,” one of the catchiest songs ever written about masturbation. It is perhaps the truest tribute to Amphlett’s urgent talent that she can make even self-stimulation seem inclusive.”
/ Jim Farber reviewing Divinyls for Rolling Stone /
Released 35 years ago today (1 November 1990): the rollicking single “I Touch Myself” by Australian post-punk band Divinyls. This was a fluke late-career international hit for the veteran band and weirdly, it ultimately led to a backlash. The subsequent album (simply entitled Divinyls) and follow-up singles didn’t chart well, and it created a perception of Divinyls as “one hit wonders.” It would be six more years before Divinyls issued another album (Underworld in 1996) which was solely released in Australia, and then they disbanded. More happily, the accompanying video for “I Touch Myself” - featuring sultry frontwoman Christina Amphlett pouting and cavorting, veiled sadomasochistic references and shots of hands reaching crotch-ward only to cut away at the last moment - is fondly remembered by many. Funnily enough, it was directed by action movies director Michael Bay of Transformers infamy. When I interviewed Amphlett in 1990 for my university newspaper she was disdainful recalling their creative disputes. “The director of the video was very square, and he was a bit of a pain in the ass because you’d walk out in different clothes and stuff and it was all a bit much for him. He had this (shot of a) girl throwing a champagne bottle and crying. What that had to do with “I Touch Myself” I don’t know. It was a bit of a battle, but maybe it was a good thing he was square because between us and him it balanced out.”
Today's diary entry/music yap includes mentions of sex, pain, and other potentially disturbing themes. I really don't think it's that bad, but you never know how other people will react.
