Heart Sign: The predominant sign of your Mayan Cross, Deer
A person born on the day Deer is steadfast, honest, graceful and noble. Like the king of the forest, they do well in executive roles. They are smart, have keen senses and are good listeners but, if out of alignment, will dominate to the point of imbalance. Deer demands authenticity in others yet may become too principled for their own good. They are romantics who use music, especially harmonies, and writing as seductive and creative outlets. They are surrounded by children, though they may not be their own. Deer know how to conserve resources and not waste opportunities.

Eyyy I have a working title for my Jacknik dream-walking fic!
So prepare to be inundated with mood boards and bullshit since I've clocked it as my next one-shot between chaptered fics lol. I want to publicly commit since I find that helps keep me on track.
Very excited to discover where the drafting of 'Only Light We'll See' takes me now that I have the whole story mapped in my head.
stand by me by Ben King
I was listening to music today and this oldie came on. My brain went "I want to do something with this" as brains so often do. So it did. I shared with a friend, who liked it, so I wish to share it with you.
Fair warning this one has some kick. My bad gang. (You'll be fine)
Stand by me is an old song. It has a good message. The kind of thing might sing to their children as a reminder no matter what happens, they can count on them. Its got a drawn out melody and a beat that makes it easy to slow dance to. Maybe martha sung it to bruce as a baby, maybe she slow danced in their libary as that song placed on a record. Maybe sweet little bruce wasn't tall enough to dance the male part of the song, so his mom danced the male version, dumming it down a bit to make it easier for her 7 year old. They danced to that song often. Martha would song along, looking into bruces eyes every time the lyric "stand by me" would. They did this up until her sudden, violent death.
After that, he never really danced that song with anyone. Mostly because Martha has changed so many things, an extra twirl because he liked them, smaller steps, different parts of the dance. Even those who knew how to slow dance didn't know the specific version his mom taught him, and he couldnt bring himself to change it. So whenever he felt sad, he would put on the old record like they always did, dancing the womens part alone, much taller than he had been the last time he danced this as a duo.
That is... until he adopted richard. Richard was new to the mannor. As old as he tried to act, he was still a boy. Short and slim to match. He would puff out his chest durring the day, act brave. But when the night terrors came? When the shadows of the manor seemed to move all on their own? His pajamas dwarfed him, swallowing him like the child he was. Bruce would hear him cry, too afraid and upset to sleep, but still too proud to ask for help. One night Bruce knocked on richard's door. Dink panicked, falling into bed and pretending to be asleep. All it took was bruces gentle voice to get the kid to sheepishly rise. Bruce wasn't harsh. Not at all. He simply led him to the library, put on that old record, and guided that boy the same way his mother had. Those same sized hands couldn't reach bruces shoulders, his feet couldn't reach all the steps, his brain didn't like how few spins there were. So one by one, he changed little things about that dance, until he was dancing that same dance he had made with his mother at richards age. This time, he wasnt the child, dancing with their parent. No. He was the parent dancing with his child.
Like I said, this one has a bit of a kick, but oh I love it so much might be my new favorite fanfiction idea.

Very Best Cover Tournament Redux
The first tournament this blog ran was for the the Very Best Cover, but in all the polls, we never voted on the frank comparison of each cover versus the original version. This special feature will allow voters to determine which version of the song is better: its original incarnation, or the cover that competed in the tournament.
Note that some of the original recordings will be deep cuts the listener is unfamiliar with, because a cover (whether the one that competed in the tournament, or another) is more famous.
Which is better?
Stand By Me by Ben E. King
Stand By Me by Imagine Dragons
Which 1986 coming of age movie is better? Stand By Me or Ferris Bueller’s Day Off?
